The Ford F-150 isn't just a truck – it's a symbol of strength and reliability. Towing boats or loading equipment, the F-150 stands ready for every challenge, powering your journeys and adventures.

3. Cab Configurations and Bed Lengths

Buyers can personalize their F-150 to match their lifestyle and usage. The truck offers a variety of cab configurations, including Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew, providing ample space for passengers and cargo.

Cab Styles

Your F-150's cab is your space, and it comes in three styles: Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. The Regular Cab seats three, making it a classic choice for those who prioritize truck bed space. The SuperCab provides a bit more room with rear seats that can fold up, suitable for both passengers and cargo. For a family-friendly option, the SuperCrew offers four full-size doors and ample interior space.

Bed Lengths

The bed, or cargo area, of your F-150 also comes in various lengths: 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet, and 8 feet. The shorter bed is ideal for daily use and parking in tighter spaces. The mid-size bed strikes a balance between cargo space and maneuverability. The longest bed is the choice for serious hauling, accommodating bigger loads with ease.

Pairing Cab and Bed

Choosing the right combination depends on your needs. Need room for passengers and gear? SuperCrew with a 6.5-foot bed might be your match. If it's a balance between passenger space and cargo capacity, the SuperCab and 6.5-foot bed combo delivers. For maximum cargo and towing power, the Regular Cab and 8-foot bed make a practical pair.

4. Interior Comfort and Technology

Inside the F-150, buyers can expect a blend of comfort and modern technology. With well-designed seats and user-friendly controls, the interior offers a pleasant driving experience. Advanced infotainment systems, connectivity features, and driver-assistance technologies elevate the driving experience further.

With the 2023 F-150, the cabin's layout and controls can be adjusted to your preferences, ensuring that everything from climate control to media is tailored to your liking.

The rear seats can be folded to create a flat loading space, making it easier to transport larger items.

Advanced driver-assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking work in tandem to provide an extra layer of protection on the road.

5. Fuel Efficiency and Efficiency Technologies

While the F-150 is a powerful workhorse, Ford hasn't compromised on fuel efficiency. The incorporation of technologies like auto start-stop, aerodynamic design, and engine advancements contribute to better fuel economy, catering to both daily commutes and long hauls.

The 2023 F-150 offers a range of engine choices, allowing you to select the one that aligns with your efficiency goals. From EcoBoost engines to hybrid options, there’s a choice for every budget. The F-150 Hybrid, for instance, pairs electric power with the gas engine, offering a seamless blend of performance and efficiency.

6. Safety Features

Safety is a priority, and the F-150 is equipped with a range of safety features to protect occupants and pedestrians.

Collision Avoidance: A Watchful Eye

The 2023 F-150 features intelligent tools designed to prevent accidents. Think of it as an extra pair of eyes on the road. When there's a potential front-end collision, a warning signal appears. If a crash seems imminent, the truck can even apply the brakes on your behalf.

Blind-Spot Monitoring: A Second Set of Eyes

Navigating traffic is now safer with the F-150's intelligent blind-spot monitoring. Equipped with advanced sensors, it detects vehicles in your blind spots. When it identifies a potential danger, you receive a visible or audible alert. Real-world trials prove its significance in preventing side collisions and improving overall road awareness, ensuring your safety on the road.

360-Degree Visibility

The F-150 has a cool camera system that gives you a top-down view of everything around you, helping when you park and move around. They've tested this tech really carefully, and it helps to make the places you can't see much smaller. It's like having a better view of what's around, especially when things are tight, making sure you're safe.

Adaptive Cruise Control

The F-150's adaptive cruise control uses sensors to maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. It automatically adjusts speed based on traffic flow, easing the stress of long drives and enhancing highway safety.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist

The F-150's Pro Trailer Backup Assist is tested and it's great at making trailer maneuvering easier. Just turn a knob, and you can steer the trailer really well, making it less likely to twist and improving safety when you're working with trailers.

Real-World Performance

The safety features in the 2023 F-150 aren't just ideas. They've tried it all out in the real world. Ford has done a bunch of tests to make sure all the tech works perfectly in different situations.

7. Off-Road Capabilities

The 2023 Ford F-150 isn't your typical truck. Its tough build and sturdy suspension make it a force to reckon with on rough trails and rocky landscapes. It's a true companion for outdoor enthusiasts, ready to handle boulders or muddy paths with ease.

The Terrain Management System

Ford's Terrain Management System isn't just a name – it's a game-changer. This tech lets you choose driving modes for different terrains like mud, sand, or gravel. Real-world tests prove its ability to keep traction and stability intact for a confident off-road experience.

Skid Plates and Protection

Off-roading hazards won't faze the F-150. Skid plates shield essential parts from rocks and debris. Proven through tests, these protective measures ensure your off-road journeys are worry-free.

Trail Control

Think cruise control for off-roading. Trail Control maintains a steady pace on tricky terrains, including downhill slopes. Real-world trials back its capabilities, allowing you to focus on steering while the F-150 handles acceleration.

Built for Adventure

The F-150's off-road abilities aren't just talk. Rigorous testing ensures every feature, from suspension to traction control, lives up to the hype. Experts agree – the F-150 conquers tough landscapes with ease.

8. Maintenance and Reliability

The 2023 F-150 is engineered for durability, designed to withstand the tests of time and the demands of the road. Its robust construction and quality materials contribute to its reputation for reliability.

Like any vehicle, the F-150 benefits from regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Timely oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks are essential to keeping your truck running smoothly. Following the recommended maintenance schedule helps maintain its reliability.

Ford's warranty coverage also adds some extra peace of mind. Understanding the warranty terms and following maintenance guidelines helps ensure your F-150's reliability for the long haul.

9. Resale Value and Ownership Costs

Value Retention: The F-150 is no ordinary truck for sale – it's an investment. Its impressive resale value means you can expect a substantial return when it's time to sell or trade-in. This translates to a more cost-effective ownership experience.

Ownership Costs

Owning the F-150 involves ongoing expenses. Fuel, insurance, and maintenance. These factors contribute to the overall cost of ownership. Researching these aspects helps you plan and manage your budget effectively.

Fuel Efficiency: The 2023 Ford F-150 offers various engine options, including hybrid models, that contribute to improved fuel efficiency compared to previous generations. This can lead to long-term savings on fuel costs.

Insurance Costs: The F-150's popularity and strong safety features can often result in lower insurance premiums compared to other vehicles in its class.

Depreciation: The F-150's reputation for retaining its value can significantly offset depreciation costs. This is particularly important when it comes to resale or trade-in value down the road.

Maintenance and Repairs: While maintenance and repair costs can vary based on usage and driving conditions, the F-150's reliability and wide availability of parts contribute to generally reasonable maintenance expenses.

Warranty Coverage: Ford offers limited powertrain warranties for the F-150, providing added peace of mind against unexpected repair costs during the initial ownership period. There may be other warranty options available at the dealer.

Longevity: The F-150's durable construction and reputation for long-lasting performance can contribute to fewer unexpected repairs and replacements over time, leading to potential savings in maintenance costs.

Tax Incentives: Depending on your location, some hybrid models of the 2023 F-150 might qualify for tax incentives or rebates, which can further lower the overall ownership costs.

The Ford F-150's legacy as a dependable workhorse and versatile companion is well-deserved. With its diverse range of engine options, towing capabilities, interior comforts, and safety features, the F-150 caters to a wide spectrum of buyers. From practical daily use to tackling challenging terrains, the F-150 excels in various roles, making it a quintessential American pickup truck.

A Guide To Purchasing a Canadian Vehicle From The United States

Because of our proximity to the Canada - U.S. border, our Fort MacLeod, Alberta, dealership receives many inquiries from U.S. buyers every month! Our dealership is located just one hour North of the Montana border, making it easy for U.S. citizens to purchase a vehicle from us. Because of the high value of the U.S. dollar, on the Canadian dollar, purchasing a vehicle from Canada can be very appealing. The U.S./Canada conversion rate, at the time of writing, has been hovering around $0.74 USD on the Canadian dollar. This means $50,000 USD is worth approximately $68,000 CAD! With an exchange rate as appealing as this, American buyers can score themselves an amazing deal on a Canadian vehicle and bring it back across the border.

We get two types of American buyers at House of Cars Fort MacLeod:

  1. In-person buyers driving back across the U.S. border
  2. Remote buyers looking to broker/import a vehicle from Canada into the United States.

Regardless of which buyer you are, you'll want to speak with a member of our team to ensure the vehicle you're looking at can be imported to the United States, and have them walk through the importation process with you.

In-person buyers

These buyers cross the border and visit our dealership to see and drive the vehicle in-person, before completing the paperwork and intend on driving their vehicle back across the U.S. border. Here's a look at an importing overview:

  1. At the dealership, you'll get a Bill of Sale showing the VIN with your name as the purchaser.

  2. You will obtain the Manufacturer’s Statement/Certificate of Origin or the title and registration.

  3. We'll help you obtain a temporary license plate and an insurance card from Alberta. You can often extend your U.S. insurance coverage to cover you in Canada as well.

  4. You will have to pay a Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the car, but you should be exempt from Provincial Sales Tax (PST) if you aren’t a Canadian resident.

  5. We'll ensure the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned and steam-sprayed prior to heading to the border. The U.S. Department of Agriculture wants the undercarriage completely free of any foreign soil.

  6. Get your documents in order before attempting to cross the border. You’ll have to fill out form CBP 7501 and some other customs paperwork declaring your possessions, including the vehicle. During that time, the customs officials will take time to inspect your car and match it up with your paperwork.

  7. Pay all associated fees. When importing a car from Canada, you will be required to pay fees you may not have encountered before. The total cost will vary depending on the model of vehicle you are importing.

Don't let any of this feel daunting. Our team will help you through the entire process. We'll make sure you get the vehicle back across the border without any issues.

Remote buyers

These buyers purchase the vehicle from within the United States, without crossing the border.

Here's a look at an importing overview:

  1. After purchasing the vehicle, we'll send you the Bill of Sale showing the VIN with your name as the purchaser.

  2. You will obtain the Manufacturer’s Statement/Certificate of Origin or the title and registration.

  3. You'll want to get in-touch with a vehicle importer/broker, who can assist you with the required import paperwork, unless you've done this before and understand the process.

  4. You will have to pay a Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the car, but you should be exempt from Provincial Sales Tax (PST) if you aren’t a Canadian resident. Your importer will handle this.

  5. We'll ensure the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned and steam-sprayed prior to heading to the border. The U.S. Department of Agriculture wants the undercarriage completely free of any foreign soil.

  6. Pay all associated fees. When importing a car from Canada, you will be required to pay fees you may not have encountered before. The total cost will vary depending on the model of vehicle you are importing. Your importer will handle the documentation and will let you know what fees you owe.

  7. We can arrange for shipping to get your vehicle where it needs to go!

Can all vehicles be imported from Canada to the United States?

Not all Canadian vehicles meet the standard of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act or the Environmental Protection Agency’s emission standards. Thankfully, the rules aren’t overly strict, and the process of meeting them is called federalization. However some vehicles cannot be imported to the United States. Please inquire with our team to see if the vehicle you're interested in can be imported.

Canada’s motor vehicle safety standards closely resemble U.S. Federal requirements. That’s why the NHTSA issues blanket eligibility covering many Canadian-certified vehicles bound for the U.S. market. If the Canadian-certified car or truck was manufactured before the FMVSS requirements changed, for example, then the vehicle must be updated to meet U.S. standards.

Often this simply involves making basic adjustments or adding basic things, but since this conversation is specific to each model. Our team can assist you with any federalization requirements.

Importing vehicles from Canada is permitted by any person looking to use the vehicle for personal use. It must comply with the Federal Department of Transportation safety standards and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards. If it doesn’t meet those already, then a DOT Registered Importer needs to import the vehicle instead.

Best Off-Road Trucks In 2021

Off-roading can be a great adventure, but you need a truck with the right features to get through the worst terrain and, more importantly, have the most fun.

Nowadays, you’re likely to find a trim level or an available package that focuses on off-roading in nearly every pickup truck’s lineup. These off-roading-oriented trucks come with rugged skid plates, high-performance suspension, off-road tires, and capable four-wheel-drive systems.

Here is a list of the best off-road trucks, and find out what off-road equipment will make travelling off-pavement safer and smarter.

All-Wheel-Drive vs 4-Wheel-Drive

That large “4x4” sticker on the side of pickup trucks means it has serious 4-wheel-drive (4WD) capability, right? Sometimes that’s true, and other times, it’s not that simple.

Before we get into it, let’s start with what 4WD means and how it is different from the all-wheel-drive (AWD)?

All-Wheel Drive

Cars, SUVs, and trucks with AWD are great for on-road traction. They can drive on dry, wet, or slippery pavement seamlessly, and the driver can trust that the system will deliver torque to the wheels that need them.

So, how does AWD work?

Most systems use torque fore and aft to the front and rear differentials. These systems are somewhat fluid in how they split up the vehicle’s torque. And that’s important for pavement driving because it makes the system’s moves nearly transparent to the driver.

4-Wheel Drive

It is a part-time system engineered more for off-road driving than dealing with roads affected by foul weather. In most cases, the driver must shift in and out of 4WD.

Some 4WD systems are more complex and capable than others. But when the driver shifts into 4WD, it locks the front and rear axles together, meaning all four wheels receive equal power and rotate at the same speed. Once engaged, 4WD systems don’t rely on a computer to sense wheel slip.

The best types of trucks for off-roading

4 Great All-Wheel-Drive

  1. 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

The ZR2 package features a 2-inch taller suspension with increased wheel travel thanks to a broader track. This helps the truck tackle off-camber and rocky terrain without losing the grip.

The ZR2 excels at slow-speed crawling thanks to the selectable front and rear locking differentials and more aggressive tires. It comes with a powerful 3.6-litre gas V6 engine or torque-rich diesel for increased efficiency and range, great for long-distance off-road camping thanks to its 20 mpg average combined rating.

  1. 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor

Ford’s new Tremor package for the Ranger brings a slightly taller suspension with more wheel travel, 32-inch tall tires, a locking rear differential, and a wider stance. That equipment helps create nearly 10 inches of ground clearance and improvements in approach and departure angles.

  1. 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon

The Rubicon is geared for slow-speed trails and wider tracks, bringing extra stability, plus locking differentials and specialized suspensions, a well-respected third-party supplier.

The Rubicon underlines its off-road credentials with an electronically disconnecting front anti-roll bar for optimum axle articulation.

This model has just about every off-road tech tool. Options include all-terrain or mud tires and a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. And there are three engine options: a potent 4-cylinder turbo, a V6, or a diesel.

  1. 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4

The Sierra package comes with a 2-inch lift and 32-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires and the Z71 and X31. The Z71/X31 package includes Rancho shocks, a 2-speed transfer case, locking rear diff, skid plates, hill descent control, high-capacity air cleaner, and integrated dual exhaust.

The ride quality on-road and off is smooth, and the chassis has just enough off-road capability to have fun in the dirt.

The GMC AT4 comes standard with a 5.3-litre V8. And it can be optioned with the efficient, 26 highway mpg, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel straight 6-cylinder or the stout 420-horsepower, 6.2-litre V8.

4 Great 4-Wheel-Drive

  1. 2016-2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD

The company offers a TRD Off-Road package. The package includes an electronically locking rear differential, skid-plating, and Bilstein dampers. The 265/70R16 all-terrain tires provide almost 10 inches under the front skid plate when it comes to ground clearance.

The 3.5-litre V6 can feel like it needs more torque, but this is generally a smooth, quiet V6.

The Tacoma is an excellent platform for moderate off-roading. Because Tacomas have a solid rep for quality and reliability, you have the peace of mind that your new, used truck won’t spend most of its life in the repair shop.

  1. 2015-2020 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X

The Pro-4X offers Bilstein shocks and large 265/75R16 tires. The suspension isn’t raised, but it does ride amazingly smoothly on-road and off.

Pro-4X trucks have skid plates for the oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case, and an electronically locking rear differential. The torquey 4.0-litre V6 is excellent off-road, too.

The soft suspension, large squishy tire sidewalls, and excellent traction make the Nissan fun in the dirt. Around town, the Frontier has steering that feels heavy combined with a wide turning circle.

  1. 2015-2018 Ram 1500 Rebel

The Rebel is an excellent 4x4. Every one of these trucks comes with an air suspension taller than the optional suspension on every other Ram. These tires have a nice thick sidewall that makes them excellent for off-road use.

Most Rebels come packing the powerful 395-horsepower 5.7-litre V8 hitched to an 8-speed automatic and turning 3.92:1 gear. That’s a recipe for one quick truck.

The Rebel is one excellent driving package that’s smooth-riding on the street and surprisingly capable off-road.

  1. 2013-2018 Ram/Dodge Power Wagon

The Dodge Power Wagon was an immediate hit with 4-wheel-drive enthusiasts, thanks to the taller suspension, 33-inch tires, locking differentials, and that innovative sway bar disconnect system.

It comes equipped with a heavy-duty Warn electric winch. It uses an electronic locking differential in each axle and disconnects the front sway bar.

Looking to buy a used truck at a dealership? Here’s what you need to know!

Trucks are the perfect vehicle to drive on different types of terrain, support heavy loads and are known for being durable. Ideal for working, exploring or just because you like how exciting it is to drive one of them, trucks offer safety without sacrificing quality and efficiency.

If you are a first-time buyer and are looking for a used truck, we want to help you. In this blog post, we will explain everything you need to know to make a successful purchase.

Make a checklist

This is a checklist that will help you during your search for the truck model you need:

  • How much are you willing to spend?
  • What will be the most common use that you will give the truck?
  • Budget available for maintenance
  • The amenities that are essential and those that are desirable
  • Will you be paying in full, or are you leaning towards financing?

With these in mind, it will be much easier for you to stick to your needs and not get carried away by salespeople who want to convince you to spend more than you can afford.

Test drive the truck before you buy it

Some problems are undetectable at first sight, especially if you have only seen the truck in pictures on the internet. If possible, try to make an appointment with your dealership or truck owner you are looking to purchase from for a test drive.

Check the lights, brake response, strange noises, dashboard, or any other sign indicating a mechanical issue that you are not aware of.

If you are still unsure or want a second opinion, you can ask to have a mechanic inspected. Dealerships like House of Cars have an in-house mechanic so that you can do it all in one place.

Used trucks need constant maintenance

Of course, all vehicles must receive regular maintenance. Trucks, although being very resistant vehicles, also need care.

Taking care of your truck will ensure its longevity and performance. Here are some of the general care tips that we recommend you frequently do:

  • Check oil levels.
  • Ensure the tires’ air levels are within the optimal range. No more, no less.
  • Do not drive if you run out of coolant liquid.
  • Keep your gas level above half whenever possible.
