Used BMWs Are the Real Luxury Deal—Here’s Why Buying New Isn’t Worth It

Maybe you’ve heard the horror stories. Someone buys a used BMW and ends up pouring cash into repairs. But is it really that bad? Or were those buyers just missing a few steps when picking one out?

Let’s break it all down. I’ll walk you through why buying a used BMW could actually be the better move, what to watch out for, how to make sure you’re getting the best deal, and why House of Cars in Alberta is the perfect place to buy “like new” BMW cars.

A new BMW straight off the lot is tempting, with that fresh car smell and all the latest tech. But if you’re on a budget, buying a used BMW can often be the smarter move, especially if you’re looking to save money without sacrificing quality.

Let’s start with the biggest reason to go for a used BMW:

The price

A brand-new BMW comes with a hefty price tag, often starting at $50k to $150k+ depending on the model, like a shiny 3 Series or X5. Drive it off the lot, and it loses a chunk of its value right away—sometimes as much as 20-30% in the first year alone. That’s a huge hit! On the other hand, a used BMW that’s just a few years old—say, 2 to 4 years—has already taken that depreciation hit. You could snag a 2022 BMW 3 Series for $30,000-$35,000 instead of paying $50,000+ for a new one in 2025. That’s a massive saving, and you’re still getting a car that feels modern, luxurious, and packed with features.

Another perk of buying a used BMW vs new is that you can often afford a higher trim or model for the same budget. Want a 5 Series with all the bells and whistles, like leather seats, a premium sound system, and advanced safety features? A new one might be out of your price range, but a used 2021 or 2022 model could fit your budget perfectly. You’re basically getting more car for your money, which is a win in anyone’s book.

Insurance costs are also lower for a used BMW. Since the car’s value is less than a new one, your premiums won’t be as high. Plus, if you’re financing, your monthly payments will be more manageable because you’re borrowing less. Speaking of financing, places like House of Cars make it easy to get behind the wheel of a used BMW, even if your credit isn’t perfect. More on that later.

How Many Years Old Should Your Used BMW Be?

Now, let’s talk about the sweet spot for buying a used BMW. Based on how BMWs hold up over time, a car that’s 2 to 4 years old is often the best choice. Why? A 2021 to 2023 BMW is still modern, with tech and features that feel current, like Apple CarPlay, advanced driver-assistance systems, and efficient engines. It’s also likely to have lower mileage—think 30,000 to 60,000 kilometers—which means it’s got plenty of life left. At this age, the car has already taken its biggest depreciation hit, so you’re getting it at a great price without losing much more value down the road.

But here’s the thing: you don’t want to go too old. A BMW that’s over 7 years old—like a 2018 model or earlier—can start to show its age in ways that might cost you an arm and a leg. Older BMWs might have outdated tech, like no touchscreen or clunky navigation systems, which can feel frustrating compared to newer models. More importantly, as BMWs age, maintenance costs can creep up. These cars are built for performance, which means parts like brakes, suspension components, and electronics can be pricey to replace if they wear out. For example, a new battery or a fix for the climate control system in an older BMW can easily run you $1,000 or more. If the car hasn’t been well-maintained, you might be looking at even bigger repair bills.

Another reason to avoid a really old BMW is reliability. Models from 2015 or earlier might start having issues with electronics, like seat adjusters or window motors, which can be annoying and expensive to fix. Plus, older cars are more likely to have missed key maintenance, like oil changes or timing belt replacements, which can lead to bigger problems down the line. So, while a 10-year-old BMW might seem like a steal at $15,000, it could end up costing you more in repairs than a slightly newer model.

How to find a Great Used BMW

It’s all about the car’s history. A used BMW that’s been well taken care of by its previous owner, has no accident history, and has a solid maintenance record can be an absolute gem. These cars are built to last—some BMW engines can go up to 300,000 kilometers if they’ve been looked after properly. That means a 2022 model with 50,000 kilometers could easily give you another 10 years of reliable driving.

So, what should you look for? First, check the maintenance history. Has the car had regular oil changes, brake servicing, and tire rotations? BMWs are high-performance machines, so they need consistent care to stay in top shape. A car that’s had all its scheduled maintenance done at a reputable shop—or even better, at a BMW dealership—is a good sign. You can usually tell if the previous owner cared about the car by how clean it is, too. A spotless interior and exterior often mean the owner took pride in keeping it in great condition.

Next, make sure the BMW has no accident history. Even a minor fender bender can cause hidden damage, like frame issues or electrical problems, that might not show up until later. An accident-free car is also more appealing if you ever decide to sell it down the road, and it’ll likely have lower insurance costs. Finally, look for low to moderate mileage. A 2022 BMW with 40,000 kilometers is a better bet than one with 100,000 kilometers, simply because it’s had less wear and tear.

When Buying a Used BMW, You NEED CARFAX History

To make sure you’re getting a used BMW that’s worth your money, a CARFAX history report is your best friend. CARFAX pulls together detailed info about a car’s past, so you can buy with confidence. It’ll show you if the car’s been in any accidents, how many owners it’s had, and whether it’s had regular maintenance. It can even tell you if the odometer has been tampered with—a big red flag for fraud. For example, a CARFAX report might reveal that a 2021 BMW 5 Series has had two owners, no accidents, and consistent service records every 10,000 kilometers. That’s the kind of car you want.

A CARFAX report can also uncover hidden issues, like if the car was ever declared a total loss or had major repairs after flood damage. Knowing this upfront can save you thousands in repairs and headaches down the road. It’s a small price to pay for peace of mind, and it helps you negotiate a better deal if there are any issues in the car’s history.

The best part? At House of Cars, we provide free CARFAX history reports with every vehicle, so you don’t have to worry about digging up the info yourself.

That means you can drive away in your dream BMW without emptying your savings account. Plus, we can deliver your car anywhere in Canada, so if you’re not near one of our locations like BMW Calgary, we’ll bring it right to you.

What to Watch Out For When Buying a Used BMW

While a used BMW can be a great deal, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you’re getting a good one. First, always check the maintenance history, as we mentioned earlier. A car that’s missed major services, like a timing belt replacement or brake fluid flush, could have hidden issues that lead to costly repairs. Second, be wary of high mileage. A BMW with over 100,000 kilometers might still be fine if it’s been well cared for, but it’s more likely to need things like a new suspension or exhaust system, which can add up fast.

You’ll also want to have the car inspected by a mechanic before you buy, even if the CARFAX report looks clean. A professional can spot things like worn-out brakes, leaking fluids, or electrical issues that might not show up in a report. This step is especially important for BMWs, since their performance parts can be expensive to fix if something’s wrong.

Finally, avoid cars with a history of major accidents or flood damage. Even if the car looks fine on the outside, underlying damage can cause problems later, like rust, electrical failures, or engine issues. Stick to accident-free BMWs with a solid history, and you’ll be much happier with your purchase.

Buying a used BMW is a smart way to enjoy luxury and performance without the new-car price tag.

Stick to a car that’s 2 to 4 years old, check its maintenance history, and make sure it’s accident-free, and you could be driving away in a gem that’ll last for years. A CARFAX report is the best way to ensure you’re getting a good deal, and at House of Cars, we provide them for free with every vehicle.

The Toyota Corolla For Sale: What You Should Know Before You Buy

Talking About The Toyota Corolla with House of Cars

When looking for a Toyota Corolla for Sale in Alberta, you're not just picking any car; you're choosing a legacy of reliability and style. Toyota's Corolla has been a reliable vehicle for drivers for decades. In this guide, we're sharing why the Corolla is the ultimate choice for those keen on buying a Toyota Corolla in Alberta.

Chapter 1: Why Choose a Corolla?

Reliability: The Toyota Corolla is a renowned symbol of durability. Toyota's commitment to quality means you can bid farewell to frequent repairs, ensuring a reliable and low-maintenance driving experience for years to come.

Fuel Efficiency: The Corolla is known for its impressive fuel efficiency, making it a budget-friendly choice for both city and highway driving. Its efficient design and advanced technologies help you save money at the pump without compromising on performance.

Resale Value: Investing in a Toyota Corolla is a smart move for the future. These cars have a strong track record of holding their value well over time. When you decide to part ways with your Corolla, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the cash you can recoup, thanks to its impressive resale value.

Chapter 2: Determining Your Budget

We understand that budgeting isn't the most thrilling aspect of car shopping, but it's essential. Here's how to do it right when buying a Toyota Corolla in Alberta.

New vs. Used: New cars dazzle with the latest tech, while used ones offer more bang for your buck. Weigh your priorities and see what fits when looking for a Toyota Corolla for Sale in Alberta. Either way, House of Cars can help you decide what may suit you best.

Financing: Don't dive into financing blindfolded. Check out interest rates, loan terms, and monthly payments. You also want to look into the warranty. Sometimes buying cars for sale by owner can be “cheaper” but by owner sales may not offer you a warranty or a mechanical fitness assessment prior to selling. This is where a used car dealer like House of Cars can help make sure you don’t get into a lemon.

Ownership: It's not just the car price; it's the whole shebang. Factor in insurance, taxes, registration, and maintenance. Create a budget that covers it all - no hidden surprises!

Chapter 3: Researching Toyota Models and Trims

We're not all one-size-fits-all, and neither are Corollas. When buying a Toyota Corolla in Alberta, consider the following.

Sedan vs. Hatchback: The Corolla comes in both sedan and hatchback models, each with its unique charm. Sedans offer a classic, timeless elegance, perfect for those who appreciate the conventional. On the other hand, hatchbacks bring versatility to the table, making them a great choice for those who crave adaptability in their driving experience as well as a more sporty look.

Trims: From the base L trim, which provides a simple and budget-friendly option, to the sportier SE and XSE trims with added performance features, you have choices to match your driving style. If tech-savvy features are your priority, the XLE and XSE trims come equipped with advanced infotainment systems. Lastly, the Corolla Hybrid, known for its impressive fuel efficiency, is a great eco-friendly option.

Features and Tech: The Toyota Corolla boasts a host of modern features and tech. Even the newer base model comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility. Higher trims offer extras like a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a premium JBL audio system, and a power moonroof. Additionally, Toyota's Safety Sense suite, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, comes standard across all trims.

Chapter 4: Inspecting the Vehicle

Your potential ride needs a thorough checkup. Here's how to buy a Toyota Corolla in Alberta!

CARFAX History: When buying used, a vehicle history report is your secret weapon. It reveals all, from accidents to maintenance records. No secrets here! All House of Cars vehicles include a free CARFAX history report for your buying convenience.

Mechanical Fitness test: Make sure a trusted mechanic gives your new car a once-over. Their expert eyes can spot hidden issues, so you know exactly what you're getting into. This is why all House of Cars used vehicles undergo a mechanical fitness test.

Test Drive: Test drives are like first dates, and you want sparks to fly. Check comfort, visibility, and driving dynamics. Visit House of Cars to Test Drive a Toyota Corolla in Alberta, today.

Chapter 5: Negotiating the Price

Market Value: Know the lay of the land. Research the market value of your Corolla model to know if you're getting a steal of a deal.

History Matters: If there are skeletons in the car's closet, it's your bargaining chip. Vehicle history and condition play a huge role in the price. Use them wisely!

Budgeting: Don't forget about the nitty-gritty costs like insurance, taxes, and maintenance. They add up, so make sure your budget covers all the bases.

Interest Rates: Try to get the best Interest Rates for Car Financing for your given situation. If your credit score is great, then you should be able to snag a fairly low interest rate. If your credit score is new or poor, keep in mind that your interest rate may be much higher than you’d prefer. However, don’t feel discouraged. After a few months of paying your vehicle with no issues or late payments, you may qualify to refinance and have your vehicle’s interest lowered. A House of Cars finance manager can help you get into the right interest rate.

Chapter 6: Closing the Deal

Paperwork: Ensure all your documents are in order. Double-check the vehicle history and title. You're almost ready to hit the Alberta roads with your new Corolla.

Cash or Financing: Sort out your payment method. Cash, card, or financing, make sure it's smooth sailing when buying a Toyota Corolla in Alberta.

Drive Home Happy: The moment you've been waiting for! Take the keys, check the vehicle one last time, and hit the road with a grin.

Chapter 7: Ownership and Maintenance - The Corolla's Long-Term Value

Routine TLC: Just like you need a checkup, so does your Corolla. Stick to a maintenance schedule that includes oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks. It's the recipe for a long and happy road life.

Warranty: Get acquainted with your warranty coverage. It's your safety net against unexpected repairs. Remember, knowledge is power, especially when it comes to car maintenance.

DIY or Pro?: Some folks are born DIYers, while others prefer the pros. Decide where you stand. Basic tasks like changing wiper blades? Go for it! Complex engine surgery? Maybe leave it to the experts when owning a Toyota Corolla in Alberta.

Chapter 8: Conclusion - Why the Toyota Corolla is Your Ultimate Choice

The Corolla is more than a car; it's a lifestyle. With its reliability, fuel efficiency, and resale value, it's the gift that keeps on giving.

But the real magic happens when you take the wheel. Whether it's a daily commute or a cross-country road trip, your Corolla is the trusty sidekick you can count on in Alberta, sun, rain or snow.

Investing in a luxury or exotic car can be a strategic decision for certain professionals, as it can elevate their business image and leave a lasting impression on clients. Here are some top reasons why a luxury car/SUV or sports car can be a good decision for business and specific careers that could benefit from it:

Enhanced Professional Image: A luxury or exotic car showcases sophistication and success, which can enhance the professional image of the driver. This is particularly important for professionals who rely on a strong personal brand to attract clients and partners. First Impressions Matter: For professionals in industries where first impressions are crucial, such as real estate agents, web developers, marketing agencies, lawyers, and high-end consultants, arriving in an impressive car can set the tone for the entire interaction. Often times people say that arriving to a meeting in a sports car was the reason they were able to close the deal.

Luxury & Exotic Cars

Client Entertainment and Meetings: Luxury cars can serve as a comfortable and stylish space for client entertainment and meetings. For sales professionals or executives who frequently host clients or conduct business on the go, a fancy car can provide a conducive environment for discussions and is a great icebreaker or conversation piece.

Networking Opportunities: Certain careers, like luxury real estate agents or high-profile event planners, require networking with affluent clients. A luxury car can act as an icebreaker and facilitate conversations, making it easier to build connections and eventual clients.

Differentiation in a Competitive Market: In competitive industries, having a distinctive edge can be invaluable. A luxury or exotic car can help professionals stand out and be memorable in a sea of competitors.

Luxury & Exotic Cars

Brand Perception: For entrepreneurs and business owners, the car they drive can reflect the success of their business. A luxury car can give the impression of a thriving company and bolster client confidence.

Inspiring Confidence: For high-profile executives, financial advisors and consultants, a luxury car can inspire confidence in clients, reassuring them that their business is in capable hands.

Marketing and PR Opportunities: Certain professionals, like luxury travel bloggers, influencers, and public figures, can leverage their luxury cars for marketing and PR purposes. The car itself becomes a symbol of their success and lifestyle, attracting more followers and opportunities. The most popular social media accounts often showcase high-end houses, cars, boats, private jets, etc.

Featured Vehicle: 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Final Edition

Lancer Evo X

Low production vehicles can be worth a pretty penny, especially when they commemorate the last year of production for a certain vehicle. The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X is no exception! When it was announced that the Evo X was retiring in 2015, one dealer in Canada marked their brand new vehicle up to $148,000. It was common for the beloved Evo X Final Edition to be sold for over MSRP, but thankfully, in 2022, you can buy a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Edition for a very fair price. It just so happens that we have one for sale at one of our Calgary dealership (and it's under $40,000)!

Meet our blue Final Edition Evo X, number 240/350 for the Canadian market (yes, it has a number plaque showing its designation.) This makes the Final Edition extremely rare and collectable.

Seeing as this car is a Final Edition, it features a few differences over the regular Lancer Evolution, such as a black painted roof, “Final Edition” badging on the trunk and a set of Final Edition BBS wheels.

Lancer Evo X

The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine is rated at 303 horsepower from the factory, delivers impressive mid-range torque, and sounds as impressive as it drives. To put it frankly, being behind the wheel will make your cheeks hurt from smiling so much! Each of the five forward gears engages with precision, and the overdrive fifth gear doesn’t slow the engine down much for freeway driving thanks to the super short final-drive ratio. Steering the car is incredibly engaging and will make any car enthusiast smile. When you're powering this sedan around corners, you're super in-tune with the car and hyper-aware of where you're piloting this unassuming Rocketship due to the engaging steering setup! This is a full-immersion automobile and it feels amazing to drive!

Based on the current Evolution X GSR, the hood, front fenders, and roof are aluminum. The only transmission available on the car is the quaint five-speed. The front seats are Recaros, which says a lot about what the car was built for. The suspension features Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks, and those are indeed big Brembo brakes behind each 18-inch BBS wheel.

Check out our listing for the Mitsubishi Evolution X Final Edition (if it hasn't been sold already)!

Featured Vehicles: 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI & R MK8 Have Arrived At House of Cars!

There's cars that get enthusiasts excited when they're revealed, and then there's cars that enthusiasts dream about for nights on end following the reveal. When Volkswagen announced they were discontinuing the base Golf TSI in North America, it sent shockwaves through the internet. But the GTI and R models would live on in the MK8 platform.

At House of Cars, even though we're not a Volkswagen Dealership, we were incredibly excited to receive both a 2022 Golf GTI and 2022 Golf R on our lots! With a waiting list to receive the GTI or R from Alberta VW dealerships, the appeal of a pre-owned 2022 model from House of Cars with under 5,000km would be quite appealing to enthusiasts!

Volkswagen's GTI and Golf R have long set the industry standard for hatchbacks with character, and the new 2022 versions are as well-assembled and incredible-driving as ever, not to mention as practical as any other hatchback on the road!

The previous-generation cars were especially well-equipped at serving as both daily drivers and mountain-road carvers; they were a blast in either situation. The new models are a step above!

The GTI's heritage throwbacks, including its plaid seats and traditional red trim ring true in the 2022 model. The R's more mature blue twist on the same aesthetic also makes waves on the new MK8 model. The exterior design, a crisper, techier take on the GTI's/R, is seen as premium and well-executed!

2022 VW Golf R & GTI

Looking at the engine and transmission, the GTI is largely the same proven-model as the outgoing MK7, and now it's the entry-level Golf hatch in Canada. The R has progressed more; its AWD system no longer sporting a Haldex center differential in favor of a torque-vectoring rear diff.

Both models are powered by the familiar 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylendar, a smooth, spicy engine that makes a bit more power than the outgoing MK7. The biggest draw is the amazing torque this hatch packs; 273 lb-ft in the GTI, 280 or 295 in the R. Both the GTI and R have sporty exhaust note that's fun to summon when exploring the tachometer's higher numbers.

All-in-all, both are impressive rides! Both can be found, barely used, at House of Cars! Skip the waiting list and the long delivery window and hop right in to either the '22 Golf GTI or Golf R models today! Even once they've sold, we can always source you one through our Canada-wide network!

Best Affordable Cars For Families In 2022

Every family has different needs when it comes to the family car. Some may want a Sedan that does the primary job well: transport their kids safely, while others may want something bigger to handle more than just the kids.

Regardless, a family vehicle needs to be reliable and affordable. This makes going with used cars from car dealers a great alternative if you’re on a tighter budget.

If you are overwhelmed by the options available, then it’s your lucky day! In this article, we have the best options for families like yours.

The list covers crossovers, SUVs, and minivans. These vehicles have some of the best accessories and features at an affordable price.

Best Midsize SUVs for Families

One of the most outstanding safety features of the Ascent is its second and third-row seat belt reminder. It gives an audible and visual warning if the seatbelt is not fastened as the vehicle accelerates from a stop.

This feature gives the parents a sense of relief, and they can rest assured that their kids will always be safe and have their seat belts fastened during the journey.

The Ascent adds steering-responsive LED headlights to the list of standard features. You’ll also get a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and innovative advanced safety features like a rear-row reminder system.

2020 Nissan Rogue

The Sienna has sliding doors that you can activate via buttons on the dash. With this feature, the parents can stay calmer knowing that their kids won’t be swinging the doors open and damaging the paint on others cars’ doors.

You can also look at the doors to keep the kids from opening the doors before you’re ready or parked.

You’ll get a 7-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa and a Wi-Fi hot spot. It also includes many safety features, such as a rearview camera, front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Standard Stow ‘n Go bucket seats in the second row and the third row let you fold the seating into the floor, creating a flat cargo area without needing to lift out and store the seats.

Standard features include the great Stow n’ Go seating setup, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

Best compact crossover SUV for Families

For safety, the Tiguan comes equipped with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Also, Volkswagen was awarded by the IIHS with the Top Safety Pick for the third consecutive year and scored very well in NHTSA car crash tests.

So, if your family ends up getting the Volkswagen Tiguan, parents can rest assured they made the right decision if their main concern it’s the safety of their loved ones.

2021 Kia Soul

The Soul comes standard with a four-cylinder engine, and a turbo-four is available. The driving experience and ride are smooth and comfortable.

The Soul’s cabin comes fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and you’ll also get a rearview camera and a rear-row reminder system. The audio system offers AM/FM radio, SiriusXM, MP3, and Bluetooth options.

Selling a Used Car for the First Time? Kick-Start Your Efforts With the Proper Posting

Being a car owner nowadays is a necessity. Ideally, you went for a car that was both reliable and durable.

But here’s the thing, not a single car choice is permanent. Occasionally you’ll find yourself in need of a change.

As expected, this means that you’ll have to sell your earlier pick. Which also means you’ll need to come up with the perfect “For Sale” posting. People have to know about it, don’t they?

But beginners beware. Contrary to popular belief, this process isn’t as simple as it seems.

To simply put it, even the tiniest (often overlooked) details have value to them. Failing to recognize this could put your efforts in jeopardy.

Don’t know where to begin? Don’t worry! Here’s tips that will help you sell your car in no-time.

A beginner’s guide to making a “For Sale” posting

Starting right away, your first priority is to make your posting look professional. The higher your professionalism, the greater your chances of finding the right buyer.

Having said that, you could sum up the essentials over the following key points:

Amount of content

Overall, your buyers want to feel as if they were observing the car in real life. Even if it is via writing. That being said, you’ll want to ensure that your words reflect the car’s true value as closely as possible.

This might sound easy to do at first. But a common mistake among first timers is not listing the ideal amount of information that should cover the feel behind the wheel, features, current condition, among other things.

People who skip this step tend to do so under the reassurance that a buyer will figure out everything they need during a test drive. But that shouldn’t be the case.

A great first impression is always the best way for standing out from the competition. If people notice that you’re dealing with a quality offer from the get go, it will be more likely for them to give you a call right away. Especially if your vehicle’s features are of their liking.

Furthermore, believe it or not, tons of people don’t like to carry out test drives at all. These sorts of people are okay with buying entirely based on what they read. So it’s within your best interest to write as much as you can since you’ll hit this demographic with greater ease.

But do remember to keep things organized! You don’t want to overwhelm your potential buyers. For this, we recommend writing with a tidy structure.

Honesty

Being honest is a great way to build trust in your buyer. If they realize that you’ve been telling them nothing but the truth, they will be more likely to agree to any price you give them. Don’t forget to provide them with accurate pricing, though!

For those reasons, you should aim to know as much as you can about your vehicle. More importantly, you have to make sure that your information is up-to-date.

Give yourself some time to do detailed research. Take note of everything you might need. Use it whenever you have to, be it on your posting or when having a face-to-face conversation with your buyer.

For this particular case, it’s better to have tons of information at hand than lacking even the slightest detail for this specific case.

Use of visual aids

Another way in which you can help your cause is by including recent photos of the vehicle. This way, people will have an easier time picturing the real thing in their minds.

Make sure to keep them presentable and aesthetically pleasing. As mentioned before, first impressions are crucial. You never know when you might catch someone’s interest just because they liked the way you framed your car in your photography work.

Effective publishing

Another critical aspect of vehicle reselling is where you’re planning to post it for sale.

Nowadays, your best option is the internet itself. Do some quick research. There you’ll find tons of online websites dedicated to the selling and purchase of second-hand vehicles.

Alternatively, even if you were to opt with a physical dealer, the chances are that they have a website of their own, which means that they might post it there for you. That is something you can also take advantage of.

Need some extra help selling your vehicle? House of Cars is there for you!

By now, you should know how to make the perfect selling posting. But again, this process might be time-consuming.

Are you considering going with an auto dealership to ease the process? More so, one in Calgary, Alberta?

At House of Cars Calgary, we believe that everyone deserves the proper means to sell their used vehicles as they please. With our park and sell service, you can step out of your car knowing that we’ll handle the selling process for you. This means more time on your hands and an opportunity to look for your next set of wheels!

Understanding Bad Credit Scores And How You Can Still Finance A Used Car

If you recently received a bad credit score or are starting to build your credit history and want to know more about it, this blog post is for you!

We will help you understand more about bad credit scores, why you can receive one and how you can finance a used vehicle even if you have a bad credit score.

Bad credit refers to an individual’s history of poor payment of bills and loans and the likelihood that they will not honour financial obligations in the future.

Can you get a loan for a used car if you don’t have a good credit score?

Getting a loan while having bad credit is possible, but it can certainly make it more difficult. These are some of the reasons why you could be lowering your credit score:

  • Missing a monthly payment
  • Declaring bankruptcy
  • Having the wrong credit card
  • Only paying the minimum
  • Identity theft
  • Loss of job or illness

The lower your credit score is, the more risk it represents for lenders, as they don't know if you will be able to pay them back. This is the reason why your interest rate could be higher.

On the other hand, having a good credit score will be essential to getting bigger loans for more important stages in your life, such as your next car loan or even a mortgage for your home. A good credit score will even improve your rates and make it even cheaper for you in the end!

All because you handled money responsibly, and lenders can trust you.

Next are some strategies that you can do to repair your credit score and get to a place where you can get a loan that is good for you.

  • Save money for down payments
  • Consider the affordability of the monthly payment
  • Have different options for lenders
  • Make principal payments

How can a dealership help me finance my used car?

For a dealership like House of Cars Calgary bringing high-quality used cars to all of our clients, regarding their credit scores, is a high priority.

Our finance experts can build a loan plan that suits your needs or re-build your current loan if you have troubles with your monthly payments.

With HoC’s financial plans, you will have fewer difficulties to fulfill your monthly payments, which in the long run will prove that you can make your payments on time and will increase your good credit score.

Buying a Pre-Owned Car: One of the Smartest Financial Decisions Anyone Can Make!

Some people aspire to buy a new car thinking that they are making the most out of their money. However, this might not always be the case.

Lower prices and excellent quality are just some of the characteristics of pre-owned cars. You can drive a great car and have more cash in your pocket than if you had bought a new one!

Here’s why buying used cars is one of the most intelligent financial decisions you can make.

  • Your money is worth more over time

Unlike new cars, the cost of buying a used car is significantly lower.

Why is that? It’s a bit more complicated than just “because it’s not new.”

A disadvantage of buying new cars is that they lose 40% to 60% of their value within the first 4 years of use. Putting it into perspective, if you buy a new car for $50,000 and try to sell it years later, you would have to sell it for $30,000 at the most.

If you, later on, decide to sell a used car you purchase, it will only decrease its cost value between 10% to 20% depending on the years you use it. A much smaller percentage of difference will make you lose much less money.

Following the previous example, those $50,000 would be $40,000 at the least by the end of it.

  • Better financing and insurance options

When requesting a quote for insurance and loans, lenders will define the value of the car considering the price at what you bought it, not the price it used to have when it was new.

Naturally, if you buy a used car, the cost of these services will be lower for you than what it originally was for the previous owner. This means having higher chances that your down and monthly payments will be more affordable than those with new cars.

This is something that the financiers at House of Cars know very well! Our financing plans for used vehicles have affordable monthly payments that are also adapted to your budget.

  • More money available in your pockets

Buying a used car means saving money from the moment you buy the vehicle and even paying for financing and insurance costs. Now you can enjoy the extra capital that you will have available!

By having lower monthly costs, you can enjoy your car while saving that extra money to plan an incredible vacation, prepare yourself financially to buy your next vehicle or just have some savings in case of emergency.

  • Your next step into taking a significant financial decision

Now that you know all the financial advantages of buying a used car over a new one, it is your turn to take the next step!

To make the most of your money, you should start looking for dealerships that offer used car models that meet quality standards, competitive prices, and financing options.

You can find all of this at House of Cars Calgary. Wait no more, call our experts today!

Quick Guide to Maintaining Your Used Car

In an ever-changing economic environment, everyone wants to make the correct financial decisions. Buying a used car is one of those decisions, given that you get all the benefits of owning a high-quality form of transportation at a lower price. However, while buying a used vehicle is a smart choice money-wise, you’ll have to put extra effort into maintaining it to ensure a useful lifespan.

Here at House of Cars, we put together this quick guide to help you maintain your used car and avoid unnecessary repair bills or, worse, giving your used car an early retirement.

Read Your Car Manual Thoroughly

Your car’s manual is all you have to go on when learning about your vehicle’s needs. Reading it is crucial as a vehicle owner, given that it provides key information that can be helpful for maintenance or repairing.

Some cases in which reading the vehicle’s manual can be useful:

  • Fluids: The manual will show a person how to check and replace the fluids. These car fluids can do everything from ensuring the car runs smoothly all the way to help you with visibility.
  • Vehicle issues: Common issues arise on any vehicle. The manual will have information about common problems and fixes.
  • Battery Information: Knowing the battery’s brand and the size needed will help you when it eventually starts to run out.
  • Tire PSI: The manual will help you determine the PSI (pounds per square inch) pressure levels your tires require.
  • Alarm Lights: Something blinked on the panel, but you have no idea what the symbol might mean? The manual will aid in identifying the icon and what it signifies.

The car manual provides all the information needed for safety, customization and, of course, repair and maintenance.

Skimming through the manual and having it ready will ensure that you are always prepared to deal with anything that may arise, avoiding unnecessary expenses and extending the life of your vehicle.

Inspect Your Tires

You have to inspect your tires at least once a year. The importance of tire maintenance cannot be overlooked.

Misaligned wheels and proper inflation are just two of the tire-related problems that can result in accidents and the loss of your car or your life.

Taking care of your tires is easy, as it requires little time and effort.

Inflate your tires to the correct PSI, rotate them and align them adequately to prevent any issues from damaging your investment.

Getting an oil change

After 3,000 or so miles, depending on your model and brand, you need to bring your car to the shop for an oil change.

While it appears as something obvious, many car owners don’t keep up with oil changes, thinking their vehicles don’t need it.

This may be true. Your car may not need it right away, but it’ll start to deteriorate in the following months, lowering its life expectancy.

Getting an oil change gives you better gas mileage as it goes in hand with the oil quality.

Oil change also reduces engine wear and tear, as it removes dirt that can build-up in your engine due to use. It contributes to the cleanness of your engine, promoting its lifespan.

Check the condition of the battery

The condition of a car battery can mean the difference between safely commuting or being stranded on the side of the road.

Battery issues are a problem every driver wants to avoid, so here are a few tips to help your battery stay free of deficiencies.

  • Clean the top of the battery and around the terminals. A clean area will help you detect and prevent any damage.
  • Tie up your cables to prevent them from moving and becoming caught by their surroundings and becoming damaged.
  • Make sure to have your battery life checked when you go in for an oil change. This will help you replace it on time before it gives out inconveniently.
  • Batteries are always in use in one way or another, especially with newer vehicles. Remember to start your car regularly to prevent the battery from dying.

Visit House of Cars and be ready to hit the road!

We hope these tips are useful to you and enable you to take better care of your used vehicle. Remember that caring for your car will ensure that you reap the benefits of your investment.

If you have intentions of purchasing a used car but don’t know where to start, be sure to visit House of Cars. Our experts can help you pick your dream car and not settle on the next best thing.

Three 2019 Fuel Efficient Vehicles That Don’t Sacrifice Style or functionality

Worried about sacrificing too much for a fuel-efficient car? You don’t have to let go of style or even the extra cool technological features just to get into an economical vehicle.

“Unless you have deep pockets, you may not be ok with allocating large amounts of money towards a pricey vehicle.”

However, it is awfully tempting to not indulge in a higher ticketed car that comes with all the bells and whistles.

For those of us who need to watch our spending, the checklist for car shopping may seem to be quite high maintenance or even impossible to completely check off without some sort of compromise.

Unfortunately, Canada’s economy at the moment doesn’t help matters at all. Most citizens of the great white north are reluctant to part with more money than they have to.

It is no wonder why the majority of Canadians want excellent value for every penny they part with.

But how can we get the biggest bang for our buck?

First, let’s look at what the most common ‘must haves’ on a car shopping checklist are: Fuel economy, style, functionality, and some extra bells and whistles are probably going to be the most common.

Most people want to look sleek in their car while dishing out the least amount of funds as possible. Of course, all their needs need to be taken care of as well, whether you need to chauffer a large family or just commute to and from work.

Fortunately, there is a way to most importantly get everything you need and all of what you want!

It all comes down to being patient and carefully doing your homework and reaching out to a reputable dealership. There is a wide variety of options in the car world, making it a lot easier to check off your list than you might think.

We have compiled a list of three 2019 cars that have the looks, fuel efficiency, and functionality that a Canadian car buyer may be looking for in today’s market.

1. 2019 Honda Civic

Starting off our list, we have one of the most recognized brands and sedans on the planet. The Honda Civic, often referred to as the top-selling retail compact car of the year.

If you’ve test-driven a newer civic, you can easily understand why it is classified as the king of compact sedans for years.

The 2019 civic has a unique look and texture to the body while maintaining a solid and aerodynamic build.

Functionality is definitely not sacrificed with this vehicle, as it offers a world-class ride and handling balance, plenty of storage space within the vehicle, and ample cargo space in the trunk. Advanced safety technology is also standard with every model.

Honda has created a very spacious and comfortable car despite its compact size. Speaking of compact, Although the civic is a smaller sedan, it has quick acceleration making it easy not to sense the speed.

If you weren’t already getting a great value for your money already, this bad boy is also very fuel-efficient. The civic averages at about 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Don’t expect that average to increase a whole lot if you have a heavy foot.

The civic is a very appealing option for singles and small families. And if you’re looking for something more sporty, consider the Honda Civic SI.

5 Best Cars For Canadian Winters

Are you tired of winter driving? We've selected 5 best cars for Canadian winters that are safe and tough enough to take on the unruly Canadian roads.

No matter what part of Canada you reside in, we all have one thing in common: every October...we all dread the wintery roads ahead. Certain parts of Canada have way more snowfall throughout the year than others, but that doesn’t stop us from being world-famous for our snowy winters.

The last thing you want is your car to die in the middle of a cold snow storm...ew. So Canadians tend to look for specific features to help make it through the winter such as bigger vehicles, AWD and newer models proven to be reliable and safe.

In this article, we will explore some of the best cars to have on your side during the often harsh Canadian winter months.

5. Jeep Wrangler

Fifth on our list is the mighty Jeep Wrangler. This bad boy is one of the most capable all-weather SUVs out there. Snow, icy roads, off-roading, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, the Jeep Wrangler will not disappoint.

  • All Wheel Drive or 4WD comes in handy for tough, slippery roads by providing power to all four wheels as opposed to the two front or two back tires.

  • Anti-Lock Braking System or ABS prevents the wheels from locking during a break allowing the vehicle to maintain directional control. The traction control will also work in conjunction with the ABS to maintain your stability on problematic winter roads.

  • The wrangler has excellent ground clearance, so you are able to stay well above the snow, preventing you from getting stuck.

Whether you are single or not, this Jeep is a great choice if you're looking for a safe, reliable, fun, and sleek looking car for the winter or any season. These usually have a higher ticket price on them, but worth every penny if your pockets can handle the cost.

>>Click here to check out pre-owned Jeep Wrangler's for sale<<

4. Ford Fusion

Ford Fusion comes in at 4th on our list. Despite having low ground clearance, this car can gracefully hold its own on icy and snowy roads. It is equipped with AWD and safety technology like the Ford co-pilot system to keep you safe during any season.

As a bonus, this vehicle is also fuel-efficient, which, of course, is an asset in slower moving traffic during the winter months. This sedan is comfortable and surprisingly roomy, making it perfect for singles, couples, or a small family looking for a safe and smooth ride.

Apart from being comfortable, reliable, and economical, the Ford Fusion is also quite gentle on your wallet. This is an affordable vehicle to get into, especially taking into account all of the great features. Talk about getting a lot of value for your money.

3. Toyota Sienna

Third in line is the Toyota Sienna! So, maybe you need to go with a van to be able to fit the fam jam. That doesn’t mean you have to compromise superior maneuverability on icy and snow-covered roads for family practicality.

The Sienna offers AWD, which is a bit of a rarity for a minivan to begin with. Furthermore, there are plenty of safety features such as Lane Tracing Assist or LTA, which keeps the car centered in its lane, even when the lines are not visible. Now that will give you peace of mind every time you pack the family up.

Toyota has done a great job keeping the safety and security of families in mind. This minivan is the perfect Canadian winter vehicle for a larger family.

2. Toyota Rav 4

At two, we have Toyota on the list once again with the Rav4, a smaller SUV with plenty of space for a small family.

This vehicle has great ground clearance to stay well above the snow with a fairly advanced AWD system, as this car is built for a little bit more than your everyday driving duties, such as light off-roading.

The RAV4 is a very capable and reliable daily driver with plenty of safety features to keep you safe during the winter.

As an added bonus, this car has a rugged and luxurious look both inside and out. You’ll feel like a boss taking the family out in the snow in this gorgeous ride.

>>Click here to check out pre-owned Toyota Rav 4 for sale<<

1. Nissan Armada

Well deserved number one! The Nissan Armada, a four-door full-size SUV capable of tackling any snowstorm like a champ. Blizzards beware!

This powerful monster has an impressive 9-inch ground clearance. It comes equipped with all the latest improvements to safety features, including intelligent AWD, ABS, and blindside detection, so you can drive confidently in any road conditions nature can throw at you.

The Armada can comfortably fit up to 8 people, making it perfect for transporting large families. If you prefer to take it to the extreme, this can also handle off-road terrains as well.

This vehicle is definitely worth the money if your objective is to have added security and luxurious comfort while driving in less than ideal weather conditions. Look sleek while keeping safe during harsh Canadian winters.

All of these vehicles would be ideal for driving in adverse road conditions. They are also modern and attractive cars.

Of course, you have the option of buying any of these great cars brand new from a dealership! But why spend so much money on a vehicle that depreciates right after leaving the lot, when you can work with House of Cars to get into a pre-owned and fabulous vehicle in mint condition at a lower cost?

What are the Benefits of Buying From a Used Car Dealership

If you’re looking to buy a nearly-new or second-hand vehicle, you may be unsure whether you should go to a used car dealership or a private seller. When discussing the pros and cons of each, the first thing that always seems to come up is the cost. Private sellers generally have cheaper deals on their cars than used car dealership; however, is this enough of a reason to forego a dealership?

We don’t think so. There are a whole host of factors that you need to consider when buying a used car that doesn’t merely come down to the price of the vehicle. At House of Cars Calgary, we’ve been selling nearly-new cars for eons, and so we know the industry like the back of our hands. We’ve seen too many clients come to us after being burnt by private dealers, so we thought we should put together a list of reasons why you should buy your car from a used car dealership.

Reputation and reviews

One of the most significant advantages of buying a vehicle from a used car dealership is that you can check their credentials and hear from previous clients. Here at House of Cars, we have been in the industry for a number of years; as a result, we have many satisfied clients that would be happy to vouch for the quality of our vehicles, as well as the friendly professionalism shown by our team. When you buy from a private seller, you never know what you are going to get and don’t know what their record is and if they are going to scam you or not.

-Variety of vehicles

Dealerships have a plethora of cars to choose from. When you go to a private seller, it’s likely that they are only selling one vehicle, and as such, you will have little choice when it comes to changing your mind.

At a dealership, you don’t have to settle on a particular make or model of vehicle before you purchase, and you can test drive several different cars to see which one suits your needs best. This also means that the vehicle you want is more likely to come in an array of color choices too.

Quality

Cars sold from a used car dealership have to go through rigorous quality control tests before they are allowed to be sold. Meaning you have peace of mind knowing that the vehicle you are looking to buy is fit for the road and has passed several comprehensive tests to ensure that it is safe for you and your family.

Warranty options

Just because you’re buying a used car, it doesn’t mean that you should have to drive without a warranty. A used car dealership is more likely to have a number of warranty options on their vehicles than a private seller will. If you have a problem with your car, need a service or repair; you won’t have to fork out as much cash as you would if you had bought a car from a private seller that has no warranty on it.

Financing options

Not everyone has the cash in hand to go out and purchase a car in full, and private sellers are highly unlikely to offer any payment options other than upfront payment. When buying from a used car dealership like House of Cars, you’ll have several different financing options available to you. Whether that’s an upfront payment from a loan, a lower monthly payment scheme with higher interest, a higher monthly payment scheme with lower interest, and so on. When you buy a car from a used car dealership, you don’t have to have a specific amount of cash on hand to drive away with your vehicle.

Following the suggested guidelines means that you are less likely to get scammed. Cash payments are never a good option, and if you do decide to go private, you should avoid them at all costs.

These are just some of the reasons why you should buy your car from a used car dealership, rather than a private seller. Come to House of Cars and find out about the many other benefits.

The Top Five Reasons Why Used Car Sales Numbers Are Increasing!

Other than when you buy a house, purchasing a new car is probably one of the most expensive decisions that you are going to make in your lifetime, and as such, it’s not one that should be made on a whim.

We have been keeping an eye on the used car market, and have noted the massive increase in the number of people choosing to go down the used car route rather than buying fresh out of the showroom. In fact, our studies indicate that “Findings from the Q1 2019 State of the Automotive Finance Market report shows that the percentage of prime (61.88 percent) and super-prime (44.78 percent) consumers choosing used vehicles reached an all-time high.”

So, why have we seen such a huge increase in the investment being made in used cars, as opposed to brand new cars over the last couple of years? Here are just a few of the driving factors.

  1. The increasing cost of new technologies

We are in a digitally-driven age, where everything around us is evolving so rapidly that it can be hard to keep up. There has been massive growth in the automation sphere and we are now surrounded by SMART technologies, which seemed to be a distant reality not too long ago.

Modern cars now come with electrical, innovative dashboards, cameras, engines and everything in between; it’s excellent that we now have more economical, environmentally-friendly vehicles, but that does come at a cost. It’s not incredibly expensive to buy new cars, yet many people simply can’t afford it.

  1. Off-lease vehicles are becoming available

When you used to mention “used cars” it conjured up images of going to a dealership and shifting through a bunch of cars in bad condition until you found the one that was the least damaged. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth and there is now a wonderfully large contingent of 3 - 4-year-old cars coming onto the market every year.

Why are so many of these barely used cars becoming available? It’s simply because more and more people are choosing to take the option to lease rather than buy their cars. Leased cars usually have a limit on the miles that they can be driven per year or before they are returned and this means that when you buy a previously leased car, you are getting something with unusually low mileage on it.

As leasing becomes a more popular option, it means that more and more off-lease cars are becoming available as their lessees return them and get newly leased vehicles.

  1. The issue of depreciation

Everyone that knows anything about cars knows that they depreciate incredibly fast. In fact, just driving a car out of a showroom will put a massive dent in the resale value of it. Most cars undergo their most dramatic depreciation period in the first two years of ownership and that means that new cars depreciate very quickly once you buy them.

Most used or off-lease cars have already had their depreciation period and as such, are already cheaper and won’t depreciate as swiftly or depreciate as much by the second owner. Owners of used vehicles won’t have to take such a hit on their cash should they wish to sell their car after a year or two; so many people have seen the sense in investing in a used car.

  1. SUVs

Let’s be honest, SUVs are a pretty big deal and are some of the most popular vehicles on the market in the US and Canada. They are relatively recent cars; therefore, they have largely been purchased as new vehicles - leaving a large variety of less popular vehicles in the used-car department.

However, we have now reached the stage where modern SUVs are being traded in for new ones, resulting in a large increase in the number of SUVs found in the used market. Furthermore, there has been a marked increase in the number of SUVs being purchased and as a whole, this has impacted the overall sales numbers in the used vehicle market.

  1. We’re becoming more environmentally aware

This may not be a huge factor, but considering that Canadians are very eco-conscious, we love to think that this is one of the reasons why more people are buying used vehicles than before. Although it’s widely acknowledged that the fumes from vehicles are damaging to the environment, one of the lesser-known facts is that most of the damage to the environment actually occurs during the sourcing and manufacturing process.

So, more people buying more used cars is a good thing for the environment, as it means that we are not continually increasing the demand for newer models that are so similar to the ones that are already on the market.

How to Determine Fair Used Car Rates

If you're looking into buying a used car, it's not always easy to know if you're getting a good deal.

Each car has its own history. The last thing you want is a jalopy that's been in five wrecks. Then there's getting fair used car rates. You have to be smart, but the whole process can be confusing.

Don't worry, we can help.

Let's take a look at how to get the right used car for you at the right price.

Finding the Right Car At Fair Used Car Rates

When trying to find the right car, do some research before you make a decision.

Look at used cars online. Check out local dealers too. If you have a particular type of car in mind, read reviews about the make and model before making a decision.

Larger dealers often have more of a selection, making it easier to find the right car.

With dealers such as House of Cars having their inventory online, you can search for used vehicles and compare.

Taking a Test Drive

Never buy a vehicle without first taking a test drive. Listen for little noises or rattles that sound abnormal.

Check to see if the car shifts easily. Make sure the air conditioning and heating work well. A grinding noise might indicate a worn compressor.

Drive with the radio off and on. Check to see if the speakers work too. As you drive, test the vehicle on the city streets and the highway, and make sure the brakes work well.

Don't overlook the seatbelts, power seats, and power windows. Check the lights, headlights, brake lights, and blinkers.

Look at the engine and check all the fluids. Look at the tires and test the air pressure. Don't just rely on the seller's knowledge.

You don't want to miss something that will cost you more money down the road.

Sometimes buying from an owner can bring mechanical headaches down the road. Play it safe by going with a dealer that mechanically inspecs their vehicles before reselling and offer warranty options.

Checking for Flooding

Thousands of cars are flooded each year due to storms, something to keep in mind if you're buying a new car.

These flooded cars could end up anywhere. At first glance, you may not see the signs of flood damage, unless you know what to look for.

Search for visible water lines inside the car, on the engine, and on the wheel wells. If you're not sure, have a mechanic inspect the car on a lift.

Look for new carpeting or upholstery. People don't normally re-carpet a car unless it has been damaged.

If you smell a musty or moldy scent, it indicates water has been in the car. Look for rusted metal under the seats. A wet air filter indicates water damage as well.

Play it safe by asking for the vehicles CarProof. Dealers such as House of Cars offer free CarProof on all vehicles.

Used Car Financing

The financing of a used car depends on whether you buy from a dealer or a private individual. In most cases, a bank won't finance a car if it's older than 5 years.

You will pay approximately 2% more when financing a used car than when financing a new car. An excellent credit score will help you get the best interest rate possible.

If your credit is poor, you may want to take steps to improve it before getting a car, but there are options. House of Cars accepts good and bad credit as well as offers credit rebuilding programs so you can buy the vehicle of your dreams down the road.

Finalizing A Deal

Once you have your final price, and you feel confident about the sellers' used car rates, you're ready to seal the deal.

If you are buying from an individual and are paying cash and there are problems later, you may not be able to get your money back. Instead, pay with check or credit card. You want to have a paper record of the transaction in case potential issues crop up.

If you buy from an individual, problems can arise if the owner still owes money on the vehicle. In this case, you must have a written agreement granting you the title once the car has been paid off.

Extended Warranty

Whenever you buy a used car that is not covered by a manufacturer's warranty, you are responsible for all repairs. If you want to save money, consider buying from a dealer and opting in for extended warranty for your used vehicle.

Make sure you understand exactly what the extended warranty will and will not cover.

Again, doing your homework pays off.

Get the Best Deal

You want to make sure you are getting the vehicle you really want at fair used car rates.

If you are in the process of looking for a quality used car, truck, or SUV, or if you have questions, we'd love to help. Check out our inventory and contact us today.

8 Things Used Luxury Cars Offer that Others Don’t

Has it been several years since you've bought your last vehicle? If so, you'll be shocked at the features used luxury cars now offer that weren't available only a few short years ago.

Many luxury car features take your driving experience from mundane to exciting. Depending on the amount of time you spend in your car each day, this can not only improve your driving time but also improve your days.

But can you really afford luxury on a modest budget? The prices of used luxury cars might pleasantly surprise you!

Let's take a look at 8 things used luxury cars offer today that other cars don't. Then you can decide if it's time to jump into one with your next car purchase.

Don't be afraid to dream!

1. Active Suspensions

The vast majority of high-end luxury cars today utilize some sort of form of active suspension. Some of these include air suspensions and others include magnets.

An active suspension system uses sensors that determine how severe a bump is before you cross over it on the road. It then adjusts the travel of the wheels to help minimize that bump's impact on the car and passengers. This helps you enjoy a much-improved ride, especially on poorly-maintained roads and highways.

In a vehicle without an active suspension, there are no bump sensors. Hitting bumps can be very harsh and unforgiving on the vehicle. No doubt you have experienced this many times in your current car.

One added benefit to active suspensions is that they reduce overall body roll which provides a much more stable ride while cornering. See for yourself. Test drive a vehicle with an active suspension and you'll immediately notice the difference it makes.

2. Massaging Seats: What Could Be Better?

Did you know that many high-end used luxury cars now offer you a personal massage as you travel throughout your daily commute?

That's right, there are several modern luxury cars that include massaging seats that are built right in. They feature air bladders that continuously inflate then deflate as you travel.

Most of the higher-end cars use up to 10 bladders in the seat. This provides the "kneading" feeling you get when you head in for a professional massage.

Not only will you get to enjoy this feeling every time you get into your car, but you might also save some hard-earned money by heading to the spa so often.

Imagine jumping into your car after a rough day at the office and getting massaged all the way home.

That's what we call luxury!

3. Executive Rear Seats

Most high-end luxury cars are available with executive rear seats. These offer much more than the standard heating and ventilation options.

On top of those standard features, executive rear seats now come with a center console that's full-length and offer climate and individual audio controls.

The rear seats are also often completely adjustable and can be reclined much like airplane seats.

While luxury comfort is important to you, it's important to your passengers as well. Executive rear seats will allow them to enjoy the ride in comfort.

4. The Mercedes AirScarf

Do you dream of owning a convertible but live in a colder weather environment and don't think it would be practical? The Mercedes AirScarf solves this problem and is available on the SL and SLK convertible models.

The AirScarf system works like an actual scarf that warms each occupant's head and neck with the weather is cooler but you want the convertible top down. It's located in the headrests in the front seats.

The AirScarf provides a beautifully warm blanket of air that continually warms both driver and passengers while you cruise down the road with the top open during late fall or early spring.

It's a dream come true for the convertible lover that's looking for more time driving with the top open.

5. Remote Start for Those Cold Winter Days

Many of the cars sold today offer smart key systems that allow you to open your door and start your engine without taking your key from your pocket. However, some brands take this even further with remote starters.

These smart systems let you start your car from a distance using your key fob. You can then allow your car plenty of time to warm up and forget about getting into a frigid car on those negative degree winter days.

In the summer you can use this feature to cool down your car so it doesn't feel like a sauna when you jump in.

6. Seat Ventilation

This is one of the best features of used luxury cars.

Ventilated seats work just like heated seats by bringing climate control directly to the seat. However, these work to cool you and your passengers.

This allows more personalized temperature control for you and your passengers, without requiring as much air conditioning.

7. Seatbelt Extenders

This simple yet luxurious feature makes it easier to buckle yourself into your car, especially if you're wearing bulky clothing like a sweater under a heavy winter coat.

As soon as you close the door, the extender pushes your seatbelt toward you, making it much easier to reach and strap on.

If you have a disability, the ease-of-reaching will be a godsend.

8. A Powered Trunk That Works Both Ways

Most cars now allow you to open your trunk by pressing a button. But how many times have you had two arms full of groceries and couldn't close the trunk without setting something down?

A powered trunk allows you to close your trunk with a simple press of a button, completely alleviating this problem.

Used Luxury Cars You Can Afford

Now that you see some of the exciting features used luxury cars offer, maybe it's time to see if you can afford to jump into one!

Start by browsing our huge inventory and see what we have to offer. If you have questions, don't hesitate to give us a call.

While driving a used luxury car may not change your life, it'll certainly change the way you feel while you're on the road. We look forward to serving you!

Get More Than a Used Car from Used Car Lots

What's the best way to buy a car on a budget? There are many ways to buy a used vehicle. Buying used costs a fraction of the price. But there are so many more benefits.

You can buy a used car with a decent amount of mileage for an affordable price. You can easily pay it off and own it, or you can lease a newer and lightly driven used car.

While purchasing from a car owner has its conveniences, you have more options purchasing from used car lots.

Find out how to get more benefits by purchasing from used car lots.

Buy a Relatively New Car for Cheaper

Most people stick to buying used cars because they're cheaper. But a used vehicle doesn't have to be 30 years old -- you can buy one that's used that's as new as only a year old.

When a car is still relatively new, lightly used, and is in great condition, they usually sell them at a used car lot. The original owner knows they will get the money that it's worth, and it will sell quickly.

And since the car has been used, it will sell for a lower price. It's estimated a car will lose 30% of its value after its first year. So you can save up to several grand if you wait a year after a car goes on the market and is re-sold at a used car lot.

You Have More Options When Buying a Car

Like buying from a manufacturer dealership, you have several options when buying a car from a used lot. The reason why is simple: used car lots buy all types of cars, in addition to several different makes and models.

When you're searching classifieds for the type you want, it can become pretty difficult.

Maybe sellers are only selling off their lightly used luxury car when you're looking for a reliable SUV. Or maybe you prefer one brand, but can't find any sellers for that brand.

Used car buyers aren't looking for an old piece of junk that will help them move from point A to point B. They understand buying a used car is a serious investment, as is buying a new car.

Dealerships with used car lots understand this and buy a variety of different cars so you can choose the best one for you.

Cars at Used Lots Are in Better Condition Than if Sold by Owner

If you find a car in the classifieds, you're not sure about its past. You're not sure if the original driver was in an accident if there are any repairs needed, or even how often the original driver changed the oil and necessary fluids.

When you buy from a used car lot, you know it will be in excellent shape. Used car lots usually only buy cars in pristine condition. They know they can return the profit and their customers can get great use out of that car.

You want your car to last. This is difficult when buying used; you're expecting some wear and tear, which means more repairs.

But buying a used car can save you money and will also save you repair costs when it's lightly used and is in great condition.

You can even ask for vehicle reports and find out if the car has been in an accident and find out how many repairs it has had or needs.

You Can Choose to Own or Lease

Can't afford to spend thousands of dollars in one day? Or maybe you want to improve your credit score by leasing?

Used car lots offer several buying options. The different pricing options benefit different buyers, and used car lots understand this.

If you're leasing, a dealership with a used lot will work with your financial situation. They will often be flexible with the down payment and will find the best leasing deal for you and give the lowest interest rate based on your credit score.

You Can Trade-In Your Car for a Cheaper Price

A great way to reduce the price of your car is by trading in your already used vehicle. Used lots will normally accept your car, especially if you purchased it from their lot.

When you do a trade-in, it will reduce the cost of the car you're buying. This will help when you're financing, or even when you're purchasing the car that day.

You Can Make Some Money By Referring

This may not apply to all used car lots, but some accept referrals. When you refer someoneto their dealer, they can give you some perks. House of Cars, for example, gives $500 for every successful referal.

Ask your family and friends and find out if they are looking to get into a used car.

Time to Search Used Car Lots

There are several used car lots, but be sure to find one that's reliable. If you purchase a great used car in excellent condition, it can easily last you several years.

Why pay the hefty fee for a brand new car? You save a ton of cash buying a used car and receive more benefits and flexibility.

If you're in Calgary, we are a leading used car lot offering great used cars in excellent condition.

The Buyer’s Used Car Checklist: What to Know Before You Purchase

You've thought about buying a used car, but you're not really sure what to look for. You're worried about getting scammed into buying a lemon and wasting all of your money.

If this sounds like you, don't worry. Buying a used car is an overwhelming situation for nearly everybody. A used car with hidden damage can become a very costly problem in the long run. And, if you don't know a lot about cars, it can sometimes be very difficult to tell if you're being duped.

Before you start shopping, you need to arm yourself with information about buying a used car.

In this article, we'll go over the used car checklist that every buyer should have on hand.

Check the Interior and Exterior

Checking the interior and exterior of your car should be the first item on your used car checklist.

Giving the car a quick once over won't do. Here's what you need to check out when it comes to the exterior:

  • Check the body panel of the car for individual scratches, rust, or dents
  • Also look for these issues on the roof, hood, and trunk lid
  • If there are issues with the exterior, make sure it's been professionally repaired
  • Squat down on your knees in the front of the car and look for waviness, which indicates body damage
  • Do the same thing on the back of the car and on the sides of the car
  • Check the tires and make sure it's even across the tread and that the tread tops are flat across the top, not cupped

For the interior, here's what you should look at:

  • Open the hood and look for dirt and rust on the engines and other parts
  • Check the upholstery and make sure it's in good condition

Never let someone rush you while you're doing your examination. Take your time, and don't be afraid to ask about anything that looks dented, worn down, or corroded.

Take a Test Drive

Taking a car on a test drive should be the second item on your used car checklist.

It's a good idea to do a test drive both on the local roads and highways. This way, you'll get a good sense of how the car performs in different environments.

While driving down local roads, pay attention to how the car shifts and how it responds to sharp turns. Also, try to hit some stop-and-go traffic so you can see how the brakes respond.

During your highway ride, pay attention to the engine and check to make sure it's running smoothly. Listen for any weird noises from the engine as well as the brakes. Also, check to make sure all of the electronics in the car are properly functioning.

Do a Leak Test

If a car is leaking fluids, that typically tells you it's going to need some repairs.

Luckily, performing a leak test before you buy is extremely easy. During your test drive, take a second and pull over in a parking lot. Let the car run for at least 30 seconds. Then, move the car and check for any leaky spots. Here's what each color of fluid may indicate:

  • Green: indicates a leak in anti-freeze
  • Black: indicates leaking oil
  • Pink: indicates a leak in the transmission

Mechanical Inspection

Many people don't take the time to have a mechanic look at the car before purchasing.

This is unfortunate, because an inspection from a professional is well worth the price, as it can save you from expensive repairs down the road. Plus, mechanics cannot only help you discover problems with the car, they can also help you figure out how much the car is worth.

Read Reviews

On your used car checklist, there should be three types of reviews you want to read: reviews on the car, reviews on the dealership, and a review of the vehicle history report.

You can find reviews on the dealership on their website, Yelp, and on Google. If you're buying on Craigslist or through some other platform, you, unfortunately, won't get this luxury. That's why it's also important to read reviews on the car itself.

Reviews on the make and model of the car can tell you if there are any common problems you should be aware of. This research can be easily conducted online.

Lastly, you need to do a review of the vehicle history report. This review will tell you the ownership history, previous accidents, service points, and any title problems. You can get this report from a dealer or order it online on a site like CarProof.

Find a Fair Purchase Price

Ensuring you are being charged a fair price can be a bit tricky. As we stated earlier, a mechanic is a great source for getting a ballpark idea.

After you've spoken with the mechanic, you should also look at several sources to compare prices. Make sure you compare cars that are the same make, model, and year. Just keep in mind, however, that condition and mileage will also affect the price of the car so only use these figures as a ballpark estimate.

Decode the VIN

Unfortunately, scammers selling stolen cars is an issue that you need to look out for when shopping for a used car.

The best way to tell if someone is trying to sell you a stolen car is by checking the vehicle's VIN decoder chart. By doing this, you'll be able to see if the vehicle's VIN info matches the vehicle's title and registration.

Take Your Time

There's a lot to keep in mind on your used car checklist. Therefore, it's very important to never rush into a buying decision.

Take your time, do your research, weigh your options, and negotiate a fair price in order to prevent buyer's remorse.

This will help ensure you get the vehicle you deserve for the price you deserve.

Used Car Checklist: Wrap Up

Following this used car checklist will help ensure that you don't get stuck with a lemon.

Take your time with each item, and don't let anyone pressure you into buying before you're ready. Taking a few extra days to do your research and choose the right vehicle and save you time and money in the long run.

Alternatively, if you want to go to a one stop shop where your vehicle has been mechanically inspected, tuned up, with warranty and CarProof on hand, then visit House of Cars or contact us today.

How to Choose the Right Used SUV for Your Needs

Looking for a big, powerful car? Do you want one that's perfect for traveling long distances? In this case, an SUV will do the trick.

These vehicles are fast and resistant to shocks, which makes them ideal for hitting the road. You can drive on sand, rocks, and mud without having to worry about your safety.

Most cars lose about 65 percent of their value within five years. Thus, it may not be worth buying a new model unless you really want it.

If you're short on money, look for a used SUV. With some luck, you can find one that looks like new. Take your time to shop around, assess your options, and negotiate the price.

First, let's see why SUVs are such a great choice!

Are SUVs Right for You?

More and more customers are choosing SUVs over passenger cars. Popular brands, such as GM, Fiat, and Chevrolet, got a huge boost in sales this year. It is estimated that over 34,365 Canadians bought a Toyota RAV4 this year alone.

Other top-selling models are the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Ford Escape. These vehicles remain a strong market leader, offers both style and comfort. With an SUV, you'll look cool and feel safe while on the road.

Unlike sedans, SUVs provide more space and extra seating capacity. This makes them ideal for families. A key feature is the third-row seating, which allows you to carry more passengers.

For instance, if you're planning a trip with your friends, it's no need to drive two cars. You can take everyone in your SUV and split the costs.

Some models get excellent gas mileage and can achieve over 30 miles per gallon. Additionally, they're safer than most sedans. SUVs boast extra safety features, such as anti-lock brakes and traction control.

They're an excellent choice for off-roading, so you can drive them on the beach or in the mountains. On top of that, drivers feel in control even at high speeds. Their maneuverability in adverse conditions shouldn't be overlooked either.

Now that you know the benefits of owning an SUV, assess your needs. What are you going to use the car for? If you have a large family or travel a lot, look no further.

Also, consider your location, budget, and ride preferences.

A regular car will work better for those who expect a smooth, luxurious ride. SUVs, on the other hand, are safer and more stable. They also hold their market value well, so you can get a great price on your car if you ever decide to sell it.

What to Look for in a Used SUV

Contrary to popular belief, SUVs are not that expensive. Nowadays, there are models for every budget. Not to mention that you can buy a used SUV that's just as good as a new one.

A second-hand vehicle can save you thousands of dollars. This year, the gap between new and used car loans hit $30,621, which is a record high.

Sure, it's nice to drive a new car, with that fresh smell and feel, but is it really worth the price? With a used SUV, you'll have fewer fees to pay and get better value for the money.

Second-hand vehicles also have lower registration fees. Moreover, they come with lots of great features at a fraction of the price. You can buy any make or model, negotiate, and even get an extended car warranty for less.

Ready to go shopping? Here are some things to consider when buying a used SUV:

Assess Your Budget

Decide how much you're willing to spend on a car. Consider its price, maintenance costs, and fuel consumption.

Request free quotes from insurance agents to determine the coverage costs. Think about any extra features you might need.

Once you have a budget in mind, look for SUVs that match your requirements.

Choose a Make and Model

Used vehicles are getting cheaper and cheaper. Car dealerships are being flooded with SUVs, trucks, and sedans that look like new. In 2017, customers paid six percent less on used cars compared to the previous years.

With proper research, it's easy to find a cheap, reliable second-hand SUV that will last for years. Plus, you can always look for more affordable models, such as:

  • Jeep Patriot
  • Kia Sportage
  • Kia Sorento Base
  • Dodge Journey
  • Nissan Rogue
  • Jeep Compass
  • Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
  • Honda CR-V
  • Toyota RAV4
  • Hyundai Tucson
  • Subaru Forester

Most SUVs boast powerful features, such as hill ascent and descent control. Your only job is to pick a model that best suits your needs.

Check the Car

Next, contact a car dealership and ask about the models you're interested in. Go there to shop around.

Check the vehicle's tires, engine, and overall condition. Look for dents, rust spots, or scratches. Make sure there are no signs of rust in the trunk.

Remove the oil filler cap and look for residues. Take a good look at the belts and hoses. If they're cracked, move on.

If you don't know too much about cars, bring a mechanic along. The mech can check the vehicle and provide more information about its capabilities.

Ask about the car's history and previous owners. Try to find out why they've sold the car in the first place. To stay safe, get an extended warranty.

Compare at least three different models before making a choice. Beware that American cars are often cheaper than European brands. Additionally, they have lower repair and maintenance costs.

Get Your Dream Car Today

As you see, buying a used SUV isn't rocket science. You just have to shop around and avoid impulse buying.

Choose a trusted car dealership and bring your own mechanic. Check the vehicle's condition and take a test drive. Ask the dealer about the differences between your favorite brands.

For many Canadians, SUVs are their go-to vehicles. In 2017, sales increased by over 8.2 percent. These cars are perfect for families and adventurers alike.

So, what are you waiting for? Contact us today to test our cars! We have over 400 models available, so it's easy to find a used SUV that won't break the wallet.

Why a Pre-Owned Car Makes the Best First Car

What makes the best first car?

There's a lot of debate around that question. Some people think that a new car is a good option. With auto sales reaching record levels in Canada, it's no wonder that they would think that way.

However, there are plenty of good reasons why a pre-owned car makes the best first car.

Sure, it's cheaper. But you'll be surprised to learn that there are reasons beyond cost savings that will convince you that a pre-owned car is the better option.

Let's get started!

The Real Cost Savings

The biggest cost savings isn't in the car prices between new and pre-owned. It's in the depreciation.

On average depreciation on a new purchase is 11% as soon as you hit the streets in your brand new car.

That's right. If you just bought a shiny new car for $30,000, you lost $3,300 in the car's value before you drive it home.

You can also lose even more money if you buy or lease a new car with the intention to trade it in for another new car five years later.

J.D. Power reports that the chances of a new car being underwater is greater between five and seven years. In other words, you'll still owe money on the vehicle.

On average, the amount still owed is $7,000 for a $35,000 car. That payment will just get rolled into your next car purchase, immediately increasing the value of your next new car.

Lower Car Value Means Lower Registration Fees

When you purchase a car with a lower value, your registration fees, and insurance costs will be lower.

That's because registration fees and insurance base their fees and premiums on the value of the car. The higher the value, the higher the costs. The lower the value, the lower the costs.

You'll Still Have Peace of Mind

One of the biggest arguments for a new car being the best first car is peace of mind.

The argument says that because you're driving a new car, the less you'll have to worry about maintenance. People also say that you'll spend less on maintenance than you would with a used car.

There's also a concern about whether or not cars are still covered by a warranty. It's a valid concern if you're buying a car directly from Craigslist. In that case, you just don't know what you're buying.

At House of Cars, we take the guesswork out for you. Every single one of our vehicles has a warranty option available. Not only that, we offer CarProof and a vehicle mechanical fitness inspection.

Today's Cars Are Made Better

The fact is that today's cars are cheaper to produce. Does that mean that the quality has suffered, too?

Not at all.

The common misconception is that because today's cars have more electronics, the more problems they have.

Today's cars are actually more reliable. J.D. Power reports that small to mid-sized cars are5% more reliable than just a year ago. The quality of the vehicle lasts longer, too.

The cars built today are also faster. The average horsepower of a vehicle has doubled in the past 40 years.

Ultimately, a car's reliability is your responsibility. A car that's regularly maintained according to the manufacturer's guidelines will be more reliable.

You Can Upgrade Your Purchase with a Pre-Owned Car

You did your budgeting homework before you decided to buy your first car. You figured out that you have a budget of $20,000. There are plenty of new models you can buy for that much. They tend to be in the compact/economic category.

If you buy pre-owned, you can drive off in a better car. You might be surprised to learn that you can get a Mercedes-Benz or BMW.

A Pre-Owned Car Is Greener Than You Think

What's more environmentally friendly, a brand new hybrid or a pre-owned car?

Believe it or not, a pre-owned car is more sustainable.

That comes down to the fact that there's a higher economic impact to manufacture and ship a vehicle. Studies by Toyota and Seiki University in Japan have found that between 12-28% of a vehicle's carbon-dioxide impact happen during manufacturing and shipping.

The remaining C02 emissions happen when the car owner takes over the vehicle.

So what about that new hybrid? Well, its battery and engines both have a greater manufacturing requirement. Thus, manufacturing emissions are going to be more for a hybrid than a standard transmission vehicle.

Either way, you're still going to be consuming fuel. That's going to be the case even if you have a fully electric vehicle. The only way you won't be consuming fossil fuels is if your car is recharged at a renewable energy source.

If you want to know that you're getting the best fuel economy, track it. The Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency is an excellent resource, too.

Your Rights When Buying a Pre-Owned Vehicle

If you're still wary of buying a pre-owned vehicle, you do have rights in Canada. Canada doesn't have lemon laws to protect consumers the same way consumers are protected in the U.S.

That's true whether you buy used or new. If you buy a new car and it's defective, your only recourse is to hope the manufacturer takes part in the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan.

For a pre-owned vehicle, we take the worry away with our top-rated customer service.

Make Sure You Get the Best First Car

There are many convincing reasons why a pre-owned vehicle makes the best first car.

Not only are you saving money on fees and depreciation, you're making an environmentally friendly choice.

With a used car, you can find a model or option that may no longer be produced.

Plus, at House of Cars, we work with people who have good to not-so-good credit histories. Our inventory ranges from luxury cars to economic vehicles.

We've won top pre-owned and used car dealership awards from Top Choice Awards, Calgary Metro Community, and the Calgary Herald Reader's Choice Awards.

Used Car Loan Rates: How to Get the Best Deal

Finding the perfect used car is a big task. You've spent hours searching online listings and test driving different makes and models until you finally find the one that fits your needs. Now the question is, how do you get the best used car loan rates for financing?

No matter how perfect the vehicle, it's important ask questions and shop around so you get the best loan rates.

Never agree to a bad financing agreement just because you've fallen in love with your car selection. There are cases where your interest rate may seem high, but this could be due to your credit. If you've ever been stuck in a high-interest car loan, you know how much it impacts your monthly budget. Be sure to ask questions about the reasons behind the high rate and assure it is something you can afford.

In this article, we'll take a close look at how you can pay as little as possible for your financing while still landing the car of your dreams.

Now, let's dive in.

Things to Consider Prior to Applying for Your Car Loan

There are a few important things you need to look at before applying for that new car loan.

First, you want to be very familiar with your personal credit report. Know what your credit scores are and understand what your overall credit situation is. Banks and private lenders may approve you with bad credit, but know that your interest rats will be higher.

Most importantly, know what you can afford each month within your budget. What will your monthly payments be?

Recent data from Experian shows that the average price of a used vehicle is at an all-time high of $19,329. The study also shows that the average credit score for buyers of used cars is 643. On average, these buyers land a car loan rate of 9.17%.

If you have excellent credit you may be able to secure a loan for as low as 2%, up to around 5-6%. On the opposite end of the credit spectrum, buyers with very poor credit scores should look to pay high rates.

Where do you fall in the credit spectrum? It's important to know this before you start applying for loans.

The good news is, after a few months or a year of having the vehicle, and as you rebuild your credit, some dealers such as House of Cars, may allow you to refinance for a lower rate.

What Do Lenders Look For When Setting Used Car Loan Rates?

Of course, your credit score is at the top of the list when it comes to approvals/denials and what interest rates are set. Dealers like House of Cars approve any type of credit history/score, but rates will depend on your current situation.

Beyond that, you can expect that lenders will look closely at:

  • Your payment-to-income ratio
  • Your personal debt to income ratio
  • How much money you're putting down on the vehicle

Lenders want to make sure you can comfortably afford the monthly payment that'll be set on your loan.

A lender will also look at the loan to value of the vehicle.

If you're not familiar with the loan to value math, it's the amount of your loan divided by the value of the vehicle you're buying. The best way to lower your loan to value is by putting the most money down that you can. An online auto finance calculator can give you an estimate.

Shop Around First

Explore financing options on your own first before you head into the dealer. See what kind of financing you can get on your own, then find out if the dealer can meet or beat it.

When you're shopping around for the best used car loan rates, pick a reputable dealer before applying.

If you do a few applications today, then wait a few months and start applying again, it'll most likely count as multiple inquiries. This can affect your credit score.

Private Landing

Some prefer private lending vs bank loans for various reasons.

Private lending may offer more flexibility or approve when a bank disapproves. If you prefer private lending options, find a dealer that offers this, such as House of Cars.

Indirect Lending

The other type of used car financing is referred to as "indirect lending". This is where a car dealer has a network of lenders they work with. They use this network to arrange the best financing for your car.

One huge advantage to indirect lending is that dealers such as House of Cars have access to many more lenders that you probably don’t.

Because there is such a huge amount of indirect lenders the dealers work with every day, their rates are very competitive. Often this will result in very low interest rates for you and a lower monthly payment.

Negotiate the Price of the Car

You're looking for the best overall deal, right? That being the case, it's best to focus on the price of the used car. While at the dealership, don't negotiate your monthly payment but instead focus on the sale price of the car.

If they can give you a great deal, then take it. Meanwhile, you've also gotten the best possible price on the car.

Check For Certified Pre-Owned

When looking for the best used car loan rates, consider looking at certified pre-owned (CPO) cars.

CPO cars are late-model used cars that go through an inspection process that is very rigorous. They'll also typically include some sort of manufacturer warranty.

They are packaged with manufacturer incentives which help you secure the best interest rate on your car loan.

Currently, deals on CPO's boast low rates. On top of that, manufacturers often offer free maintenance or payment credits on CPO's that'll save you even more money in the long run.

The Best Used Car Loan Rates are at Your Fingertips

Remember, it's always best to do your own research when you're looking for the best used car loan rates on the market. However, keep an open mind when you're at the dealership.

Always know what payments you can afford.

If you haven't found that perfect vehicle yet, we've got an amazing used vehicle inventory you'll definitely want to check out.

Of course, we can help get you the best financing rates as well when you apply. Good luck with your search. We hope to serve you soon!

1. A Calgary Car Dealership can Provide Better Financing Options

You can look at pictures of cars and read online reviews all day long, and you still won't have any idea of what it's like to drive it.

The only way to know how a car will feel when you're driving it is to actually get behind the wheel. You need to experience the car on the road to fully understand if it will work for you and if it drives easily and if you feel comfortable in it.

Visiting a Calgary car dealership for a test drive will give you that immersive experience, and it’s hassle free. When buying a car by owner, you need to go through the hassle of contacting sellers, organizing a meeting place, staying safe and hoping from one side of the city to another until you find the right car, that has no warranty. A car dealer has 100s of cars you can test drive.

3. Have Trust in the Quality of Your Car

At our local Calgary car dealership, we put all of our used cars through a rigorous vehicle inspection process before we buy them ourselves or sell them to our customers.

We believe in providing our customers with the finest used cars available, and will do whatever we can to make that happen. We want all of our customers to drive away in their newly purchased car confident that it will drive safely for thousands of miles.

That kind of guarantee is something that you just can't get from a sale by owner.

4. Extra Options Are Usually More Available at a Local Calgary Car Dealership

When you shop for a car online you scroll through endless pages of car after car, which can leave you exhausted. You become willing to settle for whatever comes closest, even if it isn't exactly what you pictured.

Purchasing a car with a dealership gives you more options to choose from, including finance options and warranty. If by chance the dealership doesn’t have the car you want, dealerships like House of Cars will get you the one you want while providing the same awesome finance options.

5. A Dealership's Reputation is Well Known

When you choose to purchase a car with a Calgary car dealership, you can do so with knowledge about the dealership's reputation. A dealership that is a member of its community will have served local customers before and should have made a good name for themselves in doing so.

Look for customer testimonials or chat with people you know who have experience with the dealership from buying their own car. A dealership with a good reputation will provide you with the best overall experience.

6. Ask Questions and Get Answers on the Spot

The Internet may have made certain things more convenient, but when it comes to customer service, the online buying by owner experience is seriously lacking.

At a local Calgary car dealership, however, customer service and satisfaction are the priority of every interaction. Rather than dealing with multiple owners that just want to sell their car and get you out of their hair, you'll have the opportunity to talk to real people who are available for you whenever you need them.

Car buying can be a complicated process, and it's likely that you'll have a lot of questions as you're shopping and comparing vehicles. You deserve to have those questions answered by someone who knows what they're talking about and who values your experience more than they value making a sale.

Shopping at a car dealership gives you the opportunity to work with a sales staff that will fight to make sure you get the best deal on the best car.

Ready to Start Shopping for Your Next Car?

We know that car shopping can be a long and intimidating process, and being able to shop by owner may seem appealing. The truth is, though, that a car is a big purchase and it should be selected with thought and consideration.

Working with a dealership is the best way to make sure that the car you're getting is the one you want. You should feel confident that it is reliable enough to last you for many years and thousands of miles. From financing options to friendly staff, a dealership has far more to offer than a sale by owner can.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a favorite of sports cars for sale today.

Ford Mustang

This classic muscle car packs an amazing value starting at just $24,500 for the base model, brand new. It has a 300-horsepower, V6 stock engine but still gets great gas mileage on the highway and in the city. For a little extra power, there's also the V8 equipped GT model packing 435-horsepower.

The Ford Mustang is a simple representation of a sports car and extremely popular with consumers. It only has two doors so don't plan to start a family with this car.

Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevy Camaro has always been a classic car and nowadays one can purchase this oldie but goodie in a newer frame and body. Sticker price on a brand new Chevrolet Camaro comes in at only $24,500 so finding a used sports car for sale in this genre could save a lot of dough.

This car comes stock with a 322-horsepower V6 engine in a retro style body, in both the coupe and convertible models. It also gets an astounding 31 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg around town.

One can't go wrong with the Camaro for it's classic body and natural power.

Scion FR-S

The Scion FR-S only comes available as a coupe but also boasts seating for four. It can be tight so don't plan to pile a bunch of friends in just because it will seat them.

This car offers 200 horsepower with tremendous acceleration at almost any speed. The rear wheel drive layout, along with a desirable front engine makes this car a real part of the competition. It's an enjoyable ride for any enthusiast.

Purchasing a new Scion FR-S will only set one back about $25,000 but a used model can save some serious cash. Go ahead, enjoy the ride.

Subaru BRZ

Although the Subaru BRZ starts a little higher than some similar car models, $26,500 for a brand new model is worth it for all standard equipment that comes with it. It also sports a well-balanced chassis for a front engine. The rear wheel drive layout and wide track allow for excellent weight distribution.

Unfortunately, this model doesn't come available in a convertible version, but for sports car enthusiasts, this car offers an incredible driving experience.

Subaru is also noted for their awesome safety features in all of their car models.

Mini Cooper Roadster

A sporty and luxurious Roadster is just the ticket for a good time. It comes with three levels of horsepower in high-performance engines and has excellent handling considering the front wheel drive.

The Mini Cooper Roadster sports beautiful interior with high-quality materials, including iPod connectivity and customization options within the technology. It also has keyless entry and alloy wheels to complement the exterior of the vehicle.

These models start at around $27,000 brand new and even the nicer models only cap out at $40,000.

While considering sports cars for sale, this is one that will not disappoint.

Mercedes Benz SLK

With a slightly different character than other sports cars for sale, on this list or otherwise, the Mercedes Benz SLK puts an emphasis on luxury and a laid back driving experience. It combines sport and luxury with a well-crafted interior and 201-horsepower turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.

A power retractable hard top and great fuel economy are just two great reasons to take a look at this car.

While the starting price for a brand new model comes in at $44,000, picking up a used one could save a hefty penny.

Features of Popular Sports Cars

Most sports cars are rear wheel drive. This allows for sharper steering and handling. It also improves performance on the car.

Check out some other features to consider here:

  • Safety Features
  • Tires
  • Driver and Passenger Access (entering and exiting the vehicle)
  • Handling
  • Drive Wheels (front or rear wheel drive)
  • Advanced Safety Technologies
  • Audio System
  • Entertainment and Convenience
  • Navigation System
  • Satellite Radio
  • Engine and Fuel Economy

Look for these features in all the sports cars that are considered. Some features may be more important than others but all of these features are generally found in a sports car model.

Purchasing Sports Cars for Sale

Purchasing a sports car should be fun and exciting. Make careful choices because this is a decision that will stick with a person for years to come. Make sure to consider all the features included in the price.

When a decision is finally made, it's also a good idea to check with the car insurance company for rates on the car that's chosen. Most insurers charge severely higher premiums for sports cars and it would be terrible to find that the vehicle is not insurable once the purchase is made.

Remember to factor in how many times how many passengers will be in the sports car. Some styles allow four passengers. Keep in mind the space limitations, especially in the back seat.

7 Cheap Used Cars You Need to Consider

Buying a car is one of the biggest stepping stones in life. But buying a car can also be stressful; it can be an investment worth thousands of dollars, even if you aren't buying a new car.

You definitely don't want to sacrifice quality when purchasing a used car, but you also want to make sure you can find cheap used cars that you can afford.

We have compiled a list of 7 cheap used cars that will work for those on a budget that are also all-around reliable vehicles. Keep reading to find out about the used cars you should consider the next time you're looking to buy.

1. Honda Fit

After first being introduced to the market in 2007, the Honda Fit has been extremely popular and falls short only to the Honda Civic in terms of popularity.

It is known to be versatile, roomy, and it handles very well. Compared to other subcompact cars, it also has great acceleration and gas mileage. Newer models like the 2010 can cost you around $6,000, but you can definitely find the older models for less.

2. Jeep Cherokee XJ

This car definitely switches it up from the Honda Fit going from a subcompact car to this large SUV. You've definitely seen a lot of these on the road, even older models dating back to the late 90s and early 2000s.

While the boxy style might not suit everyone, this is one of those cheap used cars that is both affordable and reliable. A larger SUV like this one would be great in the winter months as you would be high off the ground and in a brand known for its outdoors and off-roading capabilities.

Watch out for rust on much older models, but Jeep brand cars are known for their toughness and reliability. You would definitely be able to find a used, working Jeep Cherokee that fits your budget.

3. Honda Civic

Here we have another Honda, but this compact car is slightly larger than the Honda Fit. The Civic has been Canada's top-selling car for a whopping 17 years. That really tells you just how reliable and well-liked it is.

This car is known for having a smooth drive with responsive handling. It is roomy and comfortable as well. With many, many model years to choose from and many Hondas lasting hundreds of thousands of miles, you'll have a large range of prices for used vehicles.

Whatever budget you have, you can definitely get yourself a reliable Honda Civic.

4. Toyota Camry

This midsize sedan is also extremely popular because of its reliability, quality, and ability to keep running for years.

Cheap used cars aren't always the highest quality or the most reliable, but the Toyota Camry definitely is. In fact, it isn't uncommon to see a Camry with over 200,000 miles on it. This means that you would be getting a car that will last you a long time, which would protect your initial investment.

With models from 1997 to 2016, you can definitely find one that fits your budget.

5. Subaru Legacy

This is another midsize sedan with some unique features that make it a great choice when buying a used car.

It has all-wheel drive, which is not the most common for comparable vehicles, meaning it would be great during the winter months. Subarus are known for their great handling, and the Legacy is no exception.

The newer models (like the 2013 model) can be a little costly, anywhere from 10,000 to 12,000 dollars. Older models, however, are still reliable and they're quite a bit cheaper with 2008-2010 Legacy cars ranging from around 5,000 to 9,000 dollars.

6. Ford Ranger

Most of the cars we have listed have been smaller, midsize vehicles (besides the Jeep Cherokee). For those looking for something besides that, the Ford Ranger could be for you.

The Ranger is an excellent pick-up truck that Ford actually discontinued in 2012. Many people love the Ranger because of its simplicity: it really is just a strong, durable pick-up without many extra bells and whistles like many new trucks have.

It also isn't gigantic like many newer trucks, but the interior still feels roomy and it still has the strength and power of a truck. Its slightly compact size allows for great handling and a smooth drive.

Just like the car itself, the Ranger's engine is very durable and long lasting; if you get an older model with a lot of miles on it, you won't have to worry too much. You can definitely find a Ranger from 5,000 dollars or less if you get one from the late 90s or early 2000s.

But even some of the newer ones from around 2007-2008 can still work for someone on a budget with the price ranging around 6,000 to 8,000 dollars.

7. Honda Odyssey

Continuing with a little variety for the type of car, we have another Honda. This is the third Honda on our list, which shows just how reliable these cars are, both new and used.

We've listed small cars, midsize cars, SUVs, and even a truck, so now it is time for a minivan. Not everyone wants a minivan, but if that's what you're looking for, then the Honda Odyssey is a great choice.

Like all Honda cars, this vehicle will last for years giving you reliability as well as quality. The gas mileage for a minivan is actually pretty good compared to similarly sized vehicles.

The price range for these, like with all the others, depends on what year you buy. But you can definitely find a used Honda Odyssey for $6,000 or less.

Get Cheap Used Cars You Can Count On

Buying a car is a big deal, so you want to make sure that you're making a smart choice. Sorting through hundreds of cheap used cars can be overwhelming, so hopefully this list of reliable, cheap cars will give you a place to start your search.

How to Locate Used Cars Near Me With Reputable Dealers

Buying a used car can be an intimidating process, especially if you don't know a whole lot about cars.

Many people are wary of the untrustworthy reputation of used car salesmen like Danny Devito in Matilda. Thankfully, when you're searching "used cars near me," you don't need to worry. We've got you covered with this used car buying guide.

Read on to find out how to get a used car you'll love, how to find a dealer you can trust, and how to get a great deal.

How Can I Find Used Cars Near Me?

The process of buying a used car has become much easier in today's digital age. There are so many great online services at your fingertips that can help you in the "used cars near me" search.

Before comparing prices, it's a good idea to figure out the type of car you want to purchase.

This research can be done online, but it's great to supplement by asking friends, family, or even strangers who drive the cars you have your eye on.

You want to find out if owners of these car brands and makes are satisfied with the vehicle performance. Does the car seem to fit your needs as far as size, body type, fuel economy, and so on?

It's also important to assess the safety ratings, maintenance requirements, and cost of upkeep. Pay attention to the difference between models made each year.

Once your research produces a few cars that you are seriously interested in, you can begin searching for dealers who sell them.

How Do I Find a Reputable Dealers Of Used Cars Near Me?

A used car dealership is only as good as its reputation. Do a deep dive online to find customer testimonials and reviews. Look up their rating on the Better Business Bureau and other trustworthy review sites.

If the dealership has a bad rating, run in the other direction as fast as you can.

If they have limited reviews, they could either be a new business or they could be concealing bad reviews. Either way, it's probably not worth the risk.

Find a dealership that has a long history of happy customers, especially one that has received rewards for excellent service.

Customer Service Is Key

Note that most every business will have a dissatisfied customer review somewhere online. If you come across one of these in a sea of good reviews, pay attention to how the dealership handled it.

Did they ignore the problem or worse, respond unprofessionally or rudely? That is a sign of bad customer service. If they handled the problem professionally and effectively, you can expect to be treated with the same respect.

Browse Their Inventory Online

Once you have gathered a short list of quality used car dealers, visit their websites for an impression of what your shopping experience will be like. Is it clean and professional or busy, sales-y, and intimidating? Nix any dealerships that fall into the latter category.

Now, search the websites of the remaining contenders for your car. A professional, used car dealership will have a thorough online inventory that you can use to find information on the cars you are interested in.

Compare the prices between dealerships as well as with online car value resources for cars of the same mileage, make, model, year and so on. This will help you further gauge the honesty of a dealership's pricing.

Trading In Your Old Vehicle?

While you're at it, if you'll be trading in a vehicle, be sure to educate yourself on its wholesale value. You can do this using the same car value resources and by consulting your car insurance company.

If a dealer offers you below the wholesale value of your car, you're likely dealing with someone with questionable business practices.

How Do I Find a Used Car With a Great Value?

It pays to familiarize yourself with the selling points of used cars. Read on to find out how to avoid ending up with a lemon.

Manufacturer Warranty

A great way to prevent yourself from ending up with a rip-off is to look for a car that is less than five years old with low mileage.

That's because most manufacturers back the vehicle with a five-year warranty, regardless of change of ownership, within a certain mileage limit.

So, if you buy a car that is only three years old and has low mileage, you'll have the peace of mind of still carrying two years of the manufacturer warranty, should something go wrong.

Vehicle Inspection

No matter the age of the car, ask the dealer how they prep their cars for sale and if they come with a guarantee. It is common for used cars to be sold "as is," but a trustworthy dealership will be confident enough in the sale to back your purchase with a warranty, based on a thorough vehicle inspection.

Always have the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic. A dealer who is unwilling to let you do this is not to be trusted. Even if the dealer insists that they have had the vehicle checked out, they may not be disclosing everything that was discovered during the inspection.

Financing Options

It's important to assess the financing that the dealership has to offer you. A great financing deal depends on your credit, of course, as well as the dealership. The lower the APR, the better, so long as you can make the payments.

A convenient way to learn more about financing deals is to use a payment calculator. Knowing your numbers can help you negotiate the best financing deal for your unique situation, and guide you to the maximum price you can afford to spend on your new-to-you car.

Road Test

When all of the signs are pointing to a great deal, the last thing you must do before buying the car is a road test.

Use your instincts to assess the way the car drives. Does it feel zippy and safe, or sluggish and rickety?

Make sure you love the way your new car drives, otherwise, why are you spending all that hard earned money?

Happy Car Buying!

We hope this helped you feel more informed about the used car buying process! Now you can go forth into the "used cars near me" search with confidence.

If you're in the Calgary area, look no further than House of Cars. We are here to help you find your next pre-owned vehicle at a great value, even if you have less than perfect credit.

Picking the Right Vehicle for the Job: Finding the Best Used Trucks

Shopping for used trucks takes much more factors into consideration than purchasing a regular car.

Trucks are suitable for casual cruising around town and heavy-duty jobs. They can be reserved for long hauls or be the all-around utility vehicle your family needs.

The best way to choose the right used pickup truck for you is to understand the qualifications it needs to fill.

Determine the price you are willing to pay and the power you're looking for. Then, compare similar models based on their size, safety, and special features.

It may sound like too much work, but it pays off once you get behind the wheel of your perfect match.

Start your search with us as we break down the process below.

Set Your Budget

The average pickup truck is around $20,000 more than the average car.

Even for used vehicles, it is common to see truck prices significantly higher.

Plan accordingly to pay a little extra out of pocket or get prepared for more expensive monthly payments. The rule of thumb is to shop for about 15% of what you earn in income.

Also, (if you can) try to put at least 15% of the truck's value on your down payment. This will help decrease monthly fees, which balances your long-term financing options with other regular payments you may incur.

If you are buying a used truck from a used trucks dealership, talk to their finance department. They will help set a budget based on yearly projections. When a high growth rate is expected, you could potentially end up in a nicer truck than you expect!

Either for work or play, pre-determining rates can save you time and effort at the dealership. It makes you stick to options only at or below your price limit.

Know the Power You Need

Once you establish the power of your wallet, start narrowing down the power you expect from your choices of used trucks. The best way to assess power is through the type of drive available.

Two-Wheel Drive

Two-wheel drive is best for someone who is purchasing a truck for the first time and wants to get used to the power.

This driver does not need to tow anything heavy right away but may dream of hauling a boat or RV with another truck in the future.

Two-wheel drive allows new truck drivers to understand the importance of a rear-wheel set up. Most cars and SUVs use front-wheel systems, where all the weight of the engine and transmission are at the front of the vehicle.

Trucks, on the other hand, spread weight evenly from the front to the back.

Rear-wheel systems allow for better traction and keep the tail-end of the truck from lifting when driving with an empty load.

Four-Wheel Drive

Four-wheel drive brings more power to the table.

It is available as a manual or automatic setting in most used trucks.

Manual 4WD is not meant for everyday use. It works best in off-road situations and should be reserved for such instances to save energy on regular pavement.

Automatic settings, however, can be used for daily drives and big loads alike. It kicks in extra traction when needed without wasting the power of your truck.

Still, manual and automatic are both more suitable for heavy-duty pulling. They help keep a steady tow as you pack up a move or transport work items.

Exterior: Size and Protection

Narrowing down the power you need helps point you in the right direction of full or mid-size trucks and their cab size.

A mid-size truck is considered best for regular use around town. Their engines are typically smaller than a regular pickup truck, but they still have the basic necessities. This choice works well for simple hauling needs or an SUV upgrade.

Full-size trucks are the big dogs of trucking.

They come in more options varying across driving options and loading power, and offer dually, too. This range of trucks begins at 1500 series - Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, Ram 1500, and so on.

Full-size trucks can go up to 2500 and 3500, but this is reserved for a real work-heavy truck. Such models are more expensive and made to carry serious cargo, not just to be a family truck.

Only consider the top range of used trucks if you plan to put it through the ultimate work conditions.

Interior: Special Features

Special features on the interior can be anything as simple as ease of access to safety technology and entertainment.

Many trucks ride high above the ground, which means you need to either haul yourself into the driver's seat or use a step. Even if you are comfortable climbing up, consider side steps to make getting the whole family on the road an easy process.

Access also means leg room and level of comfort for all seats inside. If you plan to do a lot of work, check how the seats fold down and the potential for extra loading space.

When considering safety features for used trucks, check the year of the model. Every pickup since 2012 comes with electronic stability control, an innovation meant to help reduce the number of trucks rolling over in accidents.

Also, check for traction control and the number of airbags. When in doubt, always ask your used car dealer about safety ratings.

Then, have fun with the final touches like entertainment and audio.

Entertainment in used trucks can vary from the standard auxiliary cord to a full-service, SiriusXM Satellite radio.

If you have some extra room left in your budget, always go for the most up to date system. Your family and coworkers will thank you as you cruise in style.

Why You Should Buy From A Dealership Instead of Cars For Sale By Owner

If you're in the midst of car shopping, you aren't alone. It's estimated that there were over 1.9 million cars sold in Canada in 2016, and if current trends continue that number is sure to increase.

People have their own car buying preferences. Some shop at certified used car dealerships, others only look for cars for sale by owner.

It can be easy to think that buying cars directly from the owner is the way to go, but once you take time to weigh the true pros and cons of buying from an owner, you'll see why you should only buy vehicles from dealerships.

The Cars For Sale By Owner Problem

A low price tag and a guarantee to have a vehicle in an hour are much less convenient than people think. If you buy a lemon, you could be out thousands of dollars and may need to prepare for a lengthy legal battle.

The risks outweigh the benefits with private car sales. There's too much that could go wrong and leave you in a tough spot. That's why your next car should come from a reputable dealership.

Why You Should Buy From A Dealership

When you buy from a private seller, all you're getting is a car. Buying a car from a dealership gives you a variety of benefits that can help you throughout your time of ownership.

After you read this, you won't look at the cars for sale by owner section of your paper ever again.

Warranty

Warranties are one of the most important aspects of buying a car, especially when it's used. You're going to want a guarantee that you'll be able to get repairs or even a different car in case anything goes wrong.

Warranties from private sellers are tricky. Some may convince you that their warranty can be extended once they sell, but when something goes wrong you'll learn from the manufacturer that the warranty isn't transferable.

In most cases, cars for sale by owner don't have any warranty to speak of. Not having warranty on a used car can be a big risk, and it isn't one you should take. Many used car dealerships offer warranty options and assure your car is in top condition prior to selling.

Safety

When was the last time you remember hearing about a recall in the news? It seems like there are always stories about massive recalls, and cars experience them frequently.

Dealerships will alert their customers about big recalls. Many will even do the repairs and upgrades at a discounted price or for free.

In many cases, the car may also have mechanical problems you won't be aware of, and unfortunately, you may not get that word of warning from a private seller. There are many horror stories of people buying faulty cars from private sellers because important information about the car was left out. As soon as you buy their car, it's no longer their problem or concern.

Can you really afford to drive around with faulty breaks, especially when you can have them taken care of by a professional? If you care about vehicle safety, always go to a dealership.

Advice

Some people know the exact make, model, and year they want for their next vehicle. Others may not know what they're looking for in a car.

A private seller isn't going to be able to tell you about the latest safety features from the manufacturer. They also may not be able to talk to you about fuel efficiency or other things that could sway your buying decision.

Usually, they'll want to sell their car as fast as they can, but someone at a dealership will be able to answer all of your car questions and nuture you through the buying process.

A dealership is still a great place to shop even if you think you know what you want your next vehicle to be. They can tell you about other cars that have the features you want and can help you make an informed buying decision. Some dealerships can even find your dream car for you if they have non at the lot.

Legality

This is one of the main reasons why you should avoid cars for sale by owner. You never know if the car they're selling is legally theirs to sell.

Accidentally buying a stolen vehicle is much easier to do than you'd think. In 2016 a family in Edmonton purchased a car from a private seller they found online. Despite having a valid VIN number, they found that the car was stolen days later.

The family didn't knowingly buy stolen property, but they still had to deal with police and spend a little time in jail.

You don't want to risk buying something that could cause you legal problems. Nobody should have to spend a night in jail for buying a car. This is why it's important to always go with dealerships.

Service

If you were to buy a car from a private seller, you wouldn't be able to call them for help when the check engine light comes on. You also won't be able to rely on them for oil changes and other routine maintenance.

Buying a from a dealership isn't a one-time transaction. Many have service centers where they can help their customers when they need maintenance.

This can be a convenient way to ensure that you properly care for your car. Instead of having to call different auto shops for a maintenance appointment, you can simply make an appointment with your dealership.

Financing

If you don't have a lot to work with budget-wise, buying a new vehicle can be tough. Cars for sale by owner aren't going to have flexible payment options. You'll need to have the money upfront, and there's little room for negotiating.

Some people mistakenly think that it's cheaper to buy from private sellers, but buying from a dealership can actually be better for your wallet. They have a variety of financing options that can make the car buying affordable.

The right kind of auto loan can do more than finance a vehicle. Some dealerships will offer loans that can help rebuild your credit or build new credit.

Dealerships are able to work within your budget and find a car that suits your needs financially. They'll be able to find cars in your price range or find ways to get you loans if you need more money.

Next Steps

Now that you see why you need to buy from a dealership, it's time to start looking for your next car. Browse our inventory to see our wide selection of 400+ vehicles, or contact us today so we can help.

The Chevy Malibu is a Great Family Sedan for Calgary, and It Has the Award to Prove It

When you think of a family vehicle, you usually picture a minivan or large SUV. How about a midsize sedan? Well, the Chevy Malibu is a great sedan for Calgary families, and it has the award to prove it. U.S. News & World Report named the Malibu the Best Midsize Car for Families.

Why? Well, its space, features, and safety really stand out. Like its back seat, which has enough leg room for adults to sit comfortably, let alone your kids. And trunk space reaching 447.41 litres (16 cubic feet). Let's not forget Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the available built in Wi-Fi hotspot that will keep everyone entertained the whole way. (That is, if your whole family can agree on the music selection.)

Why Should You Buy Used Instead of New in Calgary?

When car shopping, eventually you'll be faced with the classic decision: should I buy new or used? For some the answer is easy, but for others, the decision can be difficult. You might love the quality of a new vehicle, but not the price tag. Put your mind at ease: Calgary drivers can have both quality and affordability in a used vehicle from House of Cars.

Used vehicles are financially advantageous both in the short and long term. In the short term, they're more affordable to buy, and usually come with lower registration fees and insurance rates. In the long term, new vehicles can lose as much as 20% of their value in just the first year! Used vehicles, on the other hand, retain their value at a much better rate, which is helpful should you decide to trade-in or resell in the future.

Now let's talk quality. How do we know our used vehicles are high quality? Because our vehicles pass a full mechanical inspection, and come with CarProof. Plus, we offer a full warranty, so you can drive off the lot with a sense of security.

So make the smart decision, and make sure your purchase is a used vehicle. Browse our full selection, and come into House of Cars for a test drive!

GMC Wins Most Refined Brand [Again] in KBB

It's quite an achievement to win an award once. To do it multiple times? That takes hard work, dedication, and an attention to detail. And GMC lives up to the challenge. GMC has won the Most Refined Brand title in Kelley Blue Book's (KBB) 2017 Brand Image Awards. What's could be better? It's the fourth year in a row GMC has landed on top.

KBB annually surveys over ten thousand visitors to their website, and asks about car shoppers' perceptions of the most popular vehicle brands. The results play a large part in determining the winner of the KBB Brand Image Awards. This not only marks the fourth year in a row that GMC has dominated the Most Refined Brand category, but it's also the eighth win in nine years.

So what makes GMC worthy of yet another title? The Denali line of GMC models have hit a nerve with car shoppers, offering the most refined GMC vehicles. The Denali line is available on popular GMC vehicles like the Terrain, Sierra, and Yukon.

Calgary drivers can experience all the refinement that GMC has to offer by taking a used GMC vehicle for a test drive. Start by browsing the used vehicle inventory available at House of Cars!
